i wish i could go straight to RN but here in miami its really hard to enter a genetic rn program , i think im going to do the lpn program for 14 months and later i can do my RN online for 1 year which is going to take me less time than waiting to be accepted to a genetic program and then the 2 years of the rn program.

The only problem is that, even with a 3.4 grade point average in the prerequisite classes, the original poster has been rejected from the RN programs that he/she has already applied to.

Therefore, the OP is seeking advice for a "Plan B."

Find out if your local hospitals have "earn as you learn" programs for PCT to RN. If I had to do it over again this is the way I'd go. The hospital hires you as a PCT and the hospital pays for your RN, then you owe the hospital a few years, plus you're guaranteed an RN position.

ladybugme that is great! Congratulations!

I was going to say that if a person can get accepted into an RN program just do that! You go the other route when you need to get to work fast or if you can't get into an RN program within your acceptable time frame. I didn't want to wait so I did LVN first and am now in LVN-RN bridge but I really hate some things about it. I hate doing clinicals and care plans all over again! Next semester is pediatrics. Again! I really don't want to be a peds nurse so I'm not looking forward to it.

So sometimes it doesn't work out great to do LVN first. Just to let some of you know. But I had to go this route because I did need employment as quick as I could get it. But I do make $12 hr LESS than the lowest paid RN's. Can hardly wait to be an RN.

Now it's tough that I"m a student all over again and have to put up with the BS of nursing school all over again and now a whole bunch of stuff has come up in my life that is making going to school really difficult. I'm praying I can handle it all and graduate so I can start earning RN pay.

I applied to both the LPN program and the RN and was actually accepted into both programs. I decided to go for the LPN because I need to be able to provide some income since the company I work for is going to shut down early next year. It was 14 months longer to be an RN and it just wouldn't have worked. I am planning on starting an LPN to RN program as soon as I pass my NCLEX-PN test. If you don't have a real reason to be financially helpful I highly suggest just going RN first. But the LPN to RN route for me has (so far) worked out nicely.

Goodluck in whatever you choose.

Thank you!! Im sooo excited I cant even stand it.. I was sooo bumbed to get into the LVN ...(its not a bad thing..but it was not my GOAL)
Now that I did get into the RN program.... I cant wait to get started... I really feel that If I would have choose to do the LVN ...first that I would feel the same exact way you do!
My thoughts are with you..during what ever it is your are going through! Just remember to stay strong! YOU WILL MAKE IT!

thanks to all of you for sharing your experiences ive decided to go for the lpn program first which is 12 months and the same school has the RN program in 12 months but since i have my A.S it will be shorter , unfortunately i went to 2 universities here in fl and i have to wait 1 year to enter 2 their program because i have to take more classes to be accepted which its going to be 3 years for me to be an RN , right now i dont have any financial problem but you never know , in 3 years everything can happen. what i dont want its to waste more time , and i think lpn will be a good start to reach my goal , which is to be RN.
