Lectures

  1. Just out of curiosity, how do your instructors lecture? For example, ours here use Powerpoint for notes. They pretty much outline what we need to know. I didn't know if other instructors just lectured or if they did this. We did have one instructor just lecture and we highlighted like crazy in the books.

i have teachers who did lectures, visual aids, questions and answer periods, andi like the ones who can give example as close to life experience as possible so you are able to understand a little better if need be.

Most of my lectures were the boring pen/paper method of trying to catch everything that was said and praying that the batteries in the tape recorder were working....
On occasion we had a power point presentation, or handouts that outlined the material. This is not helpful to me because I find that less time is spent on the subject with the handouts. Sometimes we could follow along in the book and other times, not, so I just did the best I could.
I think that the best lectures incorporate all kinds of communication: visual, auditory, hands on.....etc.
I have the big calloused bump on my finger, so it must have been more writing then I realized (LOL)
Looking forward to the start of class again in less than 5 weeks.

LOL, Gator! I'm not sure what I'm going to do about having to write notes when my classes start. Everything I write or record is typed onto my computer. Guess I'd better either rob a bank and buy a laptop or start practicing. :chuckle

I have one teacher that gives powerpoint lectures, plays G.I. and Heart jeopardy with fake money (the 3 students w/ the most $$ got to buy a race car, jeweled tiara etc...all fake or miniature), she had us all stand after lecture and threw a koosh ball to a student..have them state one thing we learned during lecture..toss the ball to someone else and have a seat until we were all seated! she really made it fun & interesting! the semester is over in one month...I'll miss her lectures!

Most of my classes are powerpoint or handouts with powerpoints on them.

we were babied for the first 3 quarters. given outlines + raw notes (usually around 20 pages). still had to write in some stuff though.

now as second level student, we aren't given a thing! :chuckle: but i actually like it much better. our instructors give us what we need and leave out most of the "fluff". they lecture, we highlight. i come home and type out my notes and i'm done with it. i prefer it much better than someone else typing them out for me.
