Last semester but.. I Hate Nursing!

I really didnt know what I was getting into with nursing. But now that i've had more experience with clinicals, i'm thinking this is not the job for me! I can't stand the idea that if I forget one little thing I can kill someone- literally. (And my memory sucks, let me tell you.) When I started this program I really thought there would be more safe guards for when you are set loose to patient care. All through out schooling I would voice this concern, and they would reassure me with "It's ok, you will be trained to handle all of these situations" well here we are, I graduate in 2 weeks and strongly feel I have not been prepared. I am a 'straight A' student and grasp the concepts well, but most of what we are taught has no use in the real world. I am starting to wonder- are there any degrees where I can apply my nursing credits? Or are there at least any jobs in nursing that are relatively low risk?

Specializes in School Nursing.
I am an Arkansan and a Razorback fan!!

That explains a lot ;) Geaux Tigers!

Don't mess with Arkansans! One of my best (and toughest) nursing teachers is an Arkansan and a ardent Razorback fan.

Has anyone done block II at Mc Fatter??? Im having second thoughts about going back to LPN school since I have failed block I at Atlantic and refuse to repeat it there....my grades were really high but when it came to skills got so nervous and it didnt help that I had a psychotic clinical instructor...to be honest never viewed nursing as a passion a dream, or whatever but more like a job, nonetheless one I 'd like to be good at. So, how are evening clinical instructors at Mc Fatter?

You can land a job at a doctor's office or school nursing.. Something that is relatively low-key. I work in the ICU now but I am leaving it for another position because it is too stressful. I can't stand seeing patients that sick to the point that they are knocking on heaven's door.

Specializes in critical care, ER,ICU, CVSURG, CCU.
Why? It's a pretty fun spectator sport.

how bout them HOGS! GO RAZORBACKS

You could become a school nurse or you could become a triage nurse at a doctors office :)

Specializes in ER, progressive care.

I felt that way, too, but it gets better with time. A good orientation and a good brain sheet will help you. And I agree, the fact that you are fearful means you will be more careful. Although things happen, I think nursing schools drill into our heads things that can happen and in turn becomes a major fear for new grads.

I will say this, though: invest in . Just in case.
