This kind of irked me !

Okay, so just because I'm a student nurse does not mean I want to practice assessments on you and offer my " Medical advice. So many of my coworkers know I'm a student nurse, not because I broacast it but because they see my textbooks in my office and they see me studying at lunch. So since they see my maternity books they now know I'm obviously studying maternity.
So to make a long story short: I walk into the lunch area at work and see the art teacher. She is also about 25 weeks preggo. So I sit next to her to ask her to draw me an outline for my presentation and before I can even get the words out of my mouth she yells loud enough for everyone to hear " You're not touching my belly "! I reply: " I don't want to touch your belly, I just wanted to know if you can help me with the drawing I needed for a project". I was so irked by this. Just because I'm a nursing student doesn't mean I'm always looking for someone to practice assessments on or practice patients. Please give me a break here.

Maybe she is tired of people asking her to sketch this or draw that just because she is the art teacher.

It goes both ways.

Maybe it wasn't because you were a nursing student. For some reason when you're pregnant people think it's acceptable to touch your belly. Maybe she just felt like her space was invaded.
Although, when some people know you're in the health field they DO want you to answer health questions. I man came up to me in a supermarket once and I had my scrubs on and he actually asked me if it was normal for his urine to smell funny after he ate certain foods!! How in the world was that appropriate supermarket ettiquette??? It was funny though!

Im starting to see a pattern with you

In life we're all gonna come across things that irk us. In the bigger picture, grand scheme of it all, there are people with BIGGER problems. She probably didnt mean it the way you took it. I understand you need to vent. Vent on girlfriend, but choose your battles love.

Lots of preggo women think someone is gonna touch their belly. You're fine.

1.) Lighten up

2.) If that really bothered you all that much you better develop alot thicker skin than that really quick or you're going to hate life as a nurse.

3.) People will always irk you. Its what they do.

4.) If this really bothered you enough to come and post it, you should be happy, because you obviously have no real problems.

Yeah I'm sorry for venting on a subject that " really isn't a big deal". Actually I don't apologize... I came here to vent, and I did and it felt good. I guess I was kinda on edge yesterday.
To Oorah- Just because I get irked every now and then does not mean I will hate nursing. I've made it this far into nursing school and trust me there is no other career I'd rather have. Thanks for the reply though. All of them were nice.
