Hello,

I just wanted to know has anyone used the kaplan exam prep to help pass your classes during nursing school and how good is it?

NOTE I'm not referring to the kaplan NCLEX course or q-bank which costs hundreds of dollars.

I just recently found out about their exam prep course which basically is like your own tutor for all the subjects. Based own their website it only cost $129 and expires in 2 years after purchase. They say to helps pass your end of semester and regular nursing exams we get throughout nursing school. It also claims to have practice questions to help throughout nursing school. Had I know about this, I would have probably got it since my first semester.

Here's the link to it

Eh, I have it because it came with my Kaplan NCLEX class I signed up to take after graduation. I wouldn't pay any significant amount of money for it. There aren't a ton of questions, there aren't questions over every topic, and some of them are written very poorly. As in typos, grammatical errors. Wasn't impressed.

They do have videos and study sheets, which are nice, but you could buy a Saunders question book and get a great review and a ton of questions for much, much cheaper.

We have to buy the 500 dollar one. I haven't yet, because I pay all tuition and everything out of pocket and I just can't do it yet.

my focus is not on the questions for nclex. I'm more like alternative ways to learn content and this seems like a good way to do it.

To each their own. I think it's pretty crappy.

Well against you guys advice, I decided to purchase it anyways, besides, it's only $100 with as instant coupon rebate they had going on. My opinion thus far I think its a great supplement to some of the stuff not covered in my lectures. It keep things straight to the point of what you need to know. It is structured by body system for the most part, explain basic pathophysiology, it covers nursing considerations , adverse effects as well as how to treat based on diagnosis and also pharmacology. I had a test this week and at least 2 questions that were not in my lecturers power-point were covered in the kaplan power point on the same topic, so thanks to kaplan prep I got those questions correct. I'm going to keep using it all throughout nursing school...hey it can't hurt to have more resources. It works for me because I'm a visual and auditory learner and seeing the powerpoint with a new way of lecturing helps for me.

It is true that not every single disorder is covered and you will still have to refer to the textbook, but that is true for any comprehensive review, even the Saunders book don't got everything we cover in class.

Another thing it does not have powerpoints for everything, but some comes on pdf files especially for pharmacology, but I think this is also good because of its simple layout and I don't have to read 50 pages about a drug just to find out how it works when a simple 1 page pdf got it all. It also has a lot of nclex style questions, so I really dont know what some people were talking about. I made a plan for 1 body system and it had over 100 questions. So based on the number of sections I'd say its easily at least 2000 questions. They are NOT q-bank questions, but its better than nothing.

I think it will be useful for first year nursing students and seniors needing to catchup on concepts. Again this is just another tool to help students be successful DURING nursing school, its NOT an NCLEX review tool. NOTHING can totally replace your textbook or your lecturer.

I got the test version of the Kaplan, I find it interesting. Which Saunders book would you recommend Steph?

I am thinking of buying the kaplan exam prep..do u still like it? I want to use it as a way of testing myself after I study. That way I can know my weak areas before I sit on my exams...how is it working for you so far?

Is it worth to but the EXAM PREP for on Kaplan , I just started nursing school and my school does not provide a tuturing center particularly on nursing subjects.

I did not utilize it as much as I should have due to time constraints but I do refer to it from time to time it is affordable and has tonnes of questions and slides/video explanations that will help with topics. It really gets straight to the point. Many of the slides used in EXAM prep are also used in the content sections of the $500 kaplan nclex course and the PDF print outs are the same found in the Kaplan Content Review Guide for NCLEX which you can get free from amazon kindle or kindle for pc. Of course the questions are mainly knowledge and content based in exam prep and that's the main difference. Getting it working for you really depends on your learning style and how much you will use it.
