Our faculty implemented ati as 10% of our grade in lecture courses. Students scroing a level 3 receive the full 10% of their grade. Students scoring a level 2 recieve 50%(failing), while students with a level 1 will receive 0%. In the one course I scored a level 2 (fairly certain to meet NCLEX standards with this content). My individual score was a 78% placing me in the 90th national percentile. For my efforts, I recieved a 50% which places me in danger of failure in the course. On the other exam I scored a level I (likely to meet Nclex standards in this area). My individual score was a 70%. For this effort I am being give a 0 placing me to certainly fail this course. I do not understand how it is possible to be curving student scores down. Noone inthe department is willing to listen and I have gone as far as the provost and he has sided with the faculty. I feel like I need to take legal action because this department has turned into a scam since I've been here. The ati policy was implemented my sophmore year and has changed for the dramatically worse each year. Am I out of line to think that the university is using ati the wrong way in an attempt to weed out students(though I don't understand why they would be weeding out seniors). Tell me what you think. Oh and if you are from Pa....don't go to IUP. 90% of peers would agree that it has been th eworst decision of their lives.

wow! ATI is 10% of our grade as well. But we only need to score a level 2 to get full points and level one is scaled down via percentile on the points.

I would talk to your department about this, if you look at the printout that describes the levels:

Level 3 - Scores meeting the Proficiency Level 3 standard may be considered to exceed most expectations for performance in this content area. Scores at this level were

judged by the content expert panel to indicate a student as likely to exceed NCLEX-RN® standards in this content area. ATI advises these students to engage in continuous focused

review to maintain and improve their knowledge of this content.

Level 2 - Scores meeting the Proficiency Level 2 standard may be considered to exceed minimum expectations for performance in this content area. Scores at this level were judged by the content expert panel to indicate a student as fairly certain to meet NCLEX-RN® standards in this content

area. ATI advises these students to engage in continuous focused review in order to improve their knowledge of this content.

Level 1 - Scores meeting the Proficiency Level 1 standard may be considered to meet the absolute minimum expectations for performance in this content area. Scores at this level were judged by the content expert panel to indicate a student as likely to just meet NCLEX-RN® standards in this

content area. ATI advises these students to develop and complete a rigorous plan of focused review in order to achieve a firmer grasp of this content.

Your school is essentially telling you you have to rock all the time which isn't how it works for the NCLEX. You have to pass it, level 2 is a good indictator that you are LIKELY to pass.

Do you mean that for my score of a 70%, which was a level 1 I would receive 70 percent of that ten percent portion of my grade rather than the full 100?

I believe so. I had a level 2 so I had just gotten my full points. But it would make sense to me that you would have gotten 7% out of the 10% for your ATI test.

edit: actually based on the percentile, you should have gotten 9%
