So I've just received my pre-nursing schedule at my CC and I only have 5 classes which is Biology 1, Biology 1 w/ Lab 1, Communications, College Algebra, and English 101.

So is it just me or does this not look like a pre-nursing schedule to you all? I seriously thought I was going to get atleast A&P or an introductory to nursing class, but now I think my advisor has scammed me. Did everyone else schedule look like this when they were doing pre-nursing?

Please respond.

I had nothing nursing related until I actually started the nursing program. I was able to set my own pre-nursing schedule and classes, so I knew what was coming down the pike. That looks like a normal pre-nursing schedule to me, though.

Scamming you? Seriously?

Yeah he made the schedule for me and didn't let me pick anything I wanted.

Hi there,

It really depends on each school. Are you going for a Associates or Bachelor's degree?

In a four-year BSN program, you can definitely expect to have classes like these for General Education requirements. GEs are what really separate an ASN and BSN. Regardless, I see science and math, two subjects that do play a role in nursing.

If you are still concerned, most schools have plans of study for each degree posted on their websites, and if not, I would call the Registrars office and ask if they can provide you with a plan of study.

Good luck!

Pre-nursing will include any and every requirement that will get you up to speed in preparation for actual nursing courses. So yes, if your academic history indicates that College Algebra and English 101 are required for you to competently take on Anatomy or Microbiology classes, you must take those courses.

I really hope you were kidding with the "scamming" comment. Seriously saying that would indicate a tremendous lack of awareness/knowledge on your part. As does the "not picking anything I wanted" comment. Do you really believe that you get to pick & choose which courses you take to earn a nursing degree?

Looks almost exactly like my first semester of pre reqs. You have to prove you're competent in those areas before you can move on to actual nursing pre reqs. See if your school will let you test out of some of those if you feel you are ready.

He gave me these courses because I plan on transferring to a university next year and he said these are all requirements for getting my BSN. But my best friend got A&P and is planning on transferring to the same university I am, although she did have a different advisor. But still.

No not in the literal sense, I just feel like he took something from me is all. But no, he was a really nice man.

Generally speaking, A&P and microbiology (pre-reqs for nursing) require you to first take a biology and chemistry course, so you have the foundations of cell function. College is an additive process. Walk before you run, and all that. :)

You will need to take A&P as well, but you cannot take that if you do not know the basics of biology.
