Howdy from Oklahoma! I'm a nursing school hopeful for 06 (accelerated BSN for 2nd degree). I'm 35, married 15 yrs to a great, supportive guy. I have a daughter 7 and son 41/2. I love this site! I was very nervous and unsure about heading back to school at my age but I have found so much encouragement from women just like me! It's very competitive here( only accept 30% of applicants) so I really need to work hard and get A's in pre-reqs. I've seen alot of discussion between ADN and BSN--I considered both, but the ADN is just as competitive and takes 2 years regardless of background- my college work and degree really didn't help me much, so I opted for the accelerated program. It's 14 months and my previous classes really helped-my degree is in botany. So I've had lots of bio, chem, zoology, etc. I'm retaking A&P for my own benefi since it's been 12 years! The only pre-reqs i need are nutrition, dev. psych, and a cultural class. all those I can do by correspondence. I just got an A on my first nutrition exam- yah! Good luck to all & thanks for the great site!

I've made it through my 1st week of classes, whew!
I am in a 2 year ADN program at community college, then on to BSN ....if I make it that far!
I'm 25, and just went from working full-time to only working 15 hours a week. Been slowly working towards my degree since I graduated high school. Finally made my mind up!

I am 26 years old, trying to figure out what to do with my life. I was in a master's program in library science, but I am now taking a leave of absense. I have been thinking about nursing for a while, just never thought I could do it. It will take me a while to do all the prerequisite science, but I'm going to try it out.

It took me over 40 years till I found myself (I didn't know I was lost!) I come from data management and had my job downsized. Graduated and certified as an MA and hopeful entry in the ADN program soon (1 last pre-req) I'm also doing my co-reqs too, unfortunately my MA certificate won't transfer. I really hate spending the time taking A&P over again! Oh well! cya all.......... -john

Hey- I posted my intro earlier, but I thought I'd update. I originally posted under NRSOK but I changed my user name since I am not a nurse- YET. I (like many) am very hopeful to earn the title. I hope I didn't offend anyone :imbar ---now I'm just plain OKIE2. For anyone here in Oklahoma--GO POKES!!

Another newbie here. Just wanted to say and good luck to everyone starting fall classes. I am applying to start in a ADN program Sept 05. Not enrolled in any official classes this semester, but I am studying HARD to take the Excelsior A&P exam in Dec and have to take the ACT (like the SAT) next month. The only other pre-reqs I have to deal with are Statistics (YUCK!!) hopefully online come January and a humanities elective, where I will attempt the DANTES Ethics exam. Then all I will have are the core nursing courses once I officially start the program.

I am excited, but SOOOO nervous about not having time to study, assignments, clinicals. At 36-yrs-old, with 3 kids (10,5 and 2 yrs) working, etc, etc.....have no IDEA where I will squeeze any more responsibilities, BUT...I am going to go through with it. I've read a lot of posts from others in the same situation, so we all must be crazy, LOL, LOL!

    Hi

This is vanciala I to am a student at a 2 year college for nursing
I am in my last year. My advice to you is to take time out for yourself. What ever ways you handle stress the best try to incorporate that into your daily routine. Try to get a study buddy in the program make sure it is someone who is just as commited as you are who is not working 40 hours a week because it will get tough later on
You must also read read read and then read some more It was a good idea to cut down on hours at work I did the same thing+ I have a great husband who wants me to just stay home and study study study. Gooooooood Luck on Exam # 1

Hi Everyone: Just a little about me

I'm Dawn, 30 years old, married with two daughters ages 5 and 9. I am in my second year of a two year LPN program. I graduate in May! So far everything is going very well. I do need to brush up on my math skills though. I've been working as a CNA at a local hospital for over a year and I think that has really helped me. Unlike some of my fellow students, I'm not going into this blindly. I have a good idea of what to expect.
