hey everyone! my name's lindsay, i'm a 21 y/o bsn student at the university of charleston. i'm engaged to my wonderful john, who i have been with for 4 years in nov. i love school so far, and i plan on attending grad school to become a crna (nurse anaesthetist). it's been a debate wether or not i wanted to go pre-med, so i took several additional biology classes just incase....but now i realize i will be much happier as a nurse, and i can't wait to start studying as a crna.

other than nursing....i'm a complete animal lover!!! i adore dogs...all breeds and sizes (but i have a weakness for boxers, pomeranians, rotts, and german shephards). i volunteer with boxer rescue where we take in and rehab abused, unwated, or abandonded boxers and adopte them out to loving forever home you can check out www.msboxerrescue.org if you would like to learn more. i also love horses, i've participated in showing saddlebreds and morgans since i was in 3rd grade.

    so...there's some stuff about me!

look forward to getting to know you all!!!

Hello, all. I am Pat. I am a new old nurse. I graduated this May with an ASN at age 47. I also have a degree in business. I will be married 30 years this November. We have one wonderful son, age 22, who will graduate with a BS in Mechanical Engineering Spring 2004. I work one full-time job as the office manager of the premier air (helicopter) and ground medical transport team, and also am orienting as an RN on the Oncology floor of the same VERY large metropolitan county hospital. My life is very busy. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed with the nursing. I suppose confidence will come with experience, but I feel that I am always on the verge of making a HUGE mistake. I have come close to mistakes twice, but fortunately caught them before they caused a problem. My preceptor says I am doing fine, and all new nurses make mistakes. I've found that if I teeter on the edge of a mistake, I will not make that mistake in the future. The old saying, "we learn from our mistakes" is true, but I don't want to make a big one as far as a patient is concerned. My floor is so busy, with all the meds due at the same time I am trying to do my initial assessment, I feel very overwhelmed. Oncology patients are very sick, and I seem to constantly be giving medications (drips, pushes, lots of pain meds, POs).

Thank you for suggesting an introduction. I hope you other new RNs feel better about your skills than me, but from the feedback I've been hearing, we all go through the same thing. I've been told, the first year is the hardest.

God's blessings to you all. May we be the best nurse we can be.

    Pat

Hi folks-hope all are doing well. Does anyone have any info/advise on nursing schools in NC? Raleigh, Durham or Charlotte area? My husband and I are seriously considering moving there and I was looking to finish school there. Im taking a medical coding class so that when we do move I can get a job in a hospital doing that while going to school, any word on that field down there or at all? Also I heard of a program there where they are teaching nurses to close in surgery? sound familiar to anyone? Any advise on any of this would be helpful along with what you think of NC, living there, blah blah..Thanks =)
