How about a thread that will allow us to introduce ourselves to those who are new and the new students can do the same.

I am Stephany, 42, mother of 3 children, a son 22, a daughter 15, and a son 13. I am an LPN of nearly 11 years, and I am in my first semester of a five-semester rn program.

after a chaotic first year in nursing school (where do they find these people??) in a community college, i transferred to excelsior and am loving it. aiming for my rn by summer, 2004 (this year!!! can't wait!!!)

i have a son, daughter-in-law and new baby grandson; and a daughter and son-in-law who are the parents of two dogs and a rabbit. son is headed off to kuwait on 11/17, the day before he turns 29.

so glad i found this site full of involved and wonderful people!

i'm lynn and this is a mid life career change for me. a long time ago i was an lpn but let my license lapse after i completed a masters in psychology. i have worked at a state institution writing behavior treatment plans for the last 12 years and i am so burned out. i got into psych in the first place because i was stranded in a location without an rn program. so, in my mid-forties, single again with the kids almost grown, i thought "if i don't do this now, i never will.". found an entry level masters program near my home which is perfect for me. i'm finishing up the undergrad portion now (i'll be done in august) and then on to the fnp/msn half. except for some role identity issues with being an undergrad again, i love it. even if some of the folks in my class are younger than my oldest child. we're doing our psych rotation now which has been the worst for me. i am totally bored and it is 'way too much like my job which i hate anyway. ah well, just 2 more weeks of that.

i'd love to here from older students starting on a second (or third) career and from anyone in an accelerated/entry level/or articulated masters program.

i started out at texas tech majoring in veterinary medicine and after changing my major about 50 times i finally decided on nursing and i really feel as if it fits me.

im very interested in neonatology, but recently i have also been looking at crna programs. for right now, ill just be happy to graduate so im not looking too far into the future. :chuckle

i have a bs in merchandising mgmt that i was lucky enough to receive from oregon state (go beavs!) back in '95. worked in retail management until i had my daughter in august 2001 and never looked back.

i'm a single mom to a very "spirited" two year old so study time is precious.

i have been an lpn for 19 years, and will graduate in june 2004 with my adn/rn. i am a wife, mother of 4 boys, ages 21,18,10,& 8, and 1 girl--age 4. i was working 5 days a week on the subacute and rehab unit at our local hospital, but i recently cut down to 3 days a week. in addition to this i help with the care of my father, who has chronic chf with many acute bouts of it. i also help my diabetic drug and alcohol dependent brother try to keep himself straight. i live in ohio at present, but plan on relocating to georgia after i graduate. i get pretty fed up and tired sometimes, but the only thing i would change would be 2 things: 1) my father would have good health, and 2) june 2004 would already be here.
