Greetings! My name is Lisa. I am 30-years-old. I have been married for 11-years and have 2 beautiful, wonderful children (9-year-old daughter & 1-year-old son)! I am currently enrolled in my first semester of a 2-year ADN program and I am taking Fundamentals of Nursing and Pharmacology. Nursing is always something thats been in my heart. I have a great love for people and a genuine desire to help and care for others! I'm not really sure what field of nursing I want to work in when I finish school but I was leaning towards OB or OR (I'm also a surgical tech)!:roll
contrats to you Lisa!!! I am 42 years young with a 16 year old and a 19 year old. I have been in school for 3 years and am going in my third quarter of nursing clinicals. I will tell you it is tough, but with much preserverence and deternimination you will do great!!! It does take alot of your time and you will sacrifice alot, don't get discouraged though, my teens support me every step of the way.

I'm almost 52 and have 4 grown children: 28,26,23,20. 'Started back to school 5 years ago in an assoc. degree program and got 1/2 way through, but had to withdraw to help care for my sick parents... (cancer, heart disease, etc.). I lost my place in the program, was going to have a bit of a wait to re-enter, but learned the university had openings 50 miles down the road in their BSN program. Even though I had to start over with the nursing courses, I am graduating this May 2007, after just 5 semesters with a BSN ( I'd already earned a BS from a previous degree in biology many years ago... which helped). My kids and husband have been great encouragers and I'm graduating in the top 5% of my class.... cum laude!

The biggest help to my learning at this stage of life has been recording lectures and re-listening to them while going back over my notes and filling in the gaps. I'm amazed to hear how much I had missed the first time around and how much the instructors really do hint and give away in class what you really need to know.. how to think through scenarios... if I listen carefully. I have a digital recorder, sit on the front row, and make CDs on the computer from the recordings. It's been my lifesaver!!!

Good luck to you all. Everyone in the hospital tells me they love hiring mature nurses becuase our life experiences add depth to our nursing skills. I sure hope so! I'm not always as "quick on my feet" with fast recall... but I think I have a lot of other qualities to offer patients to make up for youthfulness.

    HI Everyone,
My name is Brenda. I'm 37, no kids, unless you count my husband. He can be a handful but is super supportive.
I can now officially post on this thread that I was accepted into a nursing program here in CT. I start in September. I'll have all my pre-req's done except Child Psych which I will take online this fall.
I can't wait to get started! It will be a challenge, but I'm ready.
