Well The instructors of My class told Us today... That more than half of the Class is failing... And Some Are so far behind, that it's almost impossible to Catch Up...

Then They explained that, Nobody fails the last semester... So they Proceeded to Give us an INTENSE review for the Next test...

What pisses me off... Is I work my but off the First 2 test (which where worth 40 percent of our overall grade) and I received very good Grades...

For those people that didn't study as hard or if any.. Have an opportunity to catch up...

Nursing suppose to be challenging... Right?

Am I being selfish... or is it not fair?

But of the people failing are some really close friends... And I would hate for them to fail out... So I don't know...

What do you all think...

(I feel as thou... why do I even try...)

Couldn't you just have excused yourself and left if you didn't feel like you needed it?

Your instructors are showing a lot more compassion than what is usual for a nursing program. They even said that it is very rare that anyone fails the final semester. That leads me to believe that their may be some other contributing factors to so many students performing poorly...perhaps unclear lecture material, etc.

As long as you are studying hard and passing then you should not be concerned about anyone elses grades.

I know what you are saying, they graded our very last final on a huge curve because many people did so bad. t was just kind of more of the same because certain students in my class were never held to the standards as the majority but whatever, I passed and really thats what really matters. Congratulations to you.

i dunno i think i was blowing it out of proportion...

I know for some people some of this material is VERY difficult to grasp....not sure at what point someone determines they're unsafe to be nurses, but it seems the time to help these folks out is BEFORE they're struggling to pass a semester...particularly the FINAL semester!!

I think that you were overreacting too but that's human. It is hard when you put forth the effort & do well & then the ones who don't get special consideration. We had a quiz last week in one of my classes. We were warned that it was failed by almost everyone last term so we all shoud have known to study hard. Only 5 of us passed it & of those 3 were low C's. I got the only A. My teacher paired us up & gave us the same test again to work on together. Although it is only worth 10 points now, it's 10 that is added to the other score. I'm glad she did this as it will help the others. Heck, I may end up with over 100% so it helps me too.

Try to worry about just your progress & remember, there may be a time where you need the extra help too.

Yeah, but it's kind of a downer to know you're trying harder to be the best you can be while others are doing the bare minimum to get by.

If anyone of those needing the extra review are true slackers, no one will be holding thier hand when they take the NCLEX. They'll be all alone in front of the computer in the little cubicle - it's the great equalizer.

Don't sweat it - just be happy you're doing what you know you need to do to master the material.

Good luck!

I have a computer class right now that is ridiculously easy....all tests and homework are online, all tests open book. You can work at your own pace.

However, we have deadlines. We are on Chapter 4 and this girl, that never comes to class, missed the first two exams and the professor is letting her make them up.

I don't like getting up and driving 45 minutes to school either for an 8:00 a.m. class. I figure if you miss class, then you take the consequences of what you missed, unless of course, you are deathly ill or in a car accident.

So, I TOTALLY agree with you that it isn't fair to those that put the work in.

I think the thing to remember is that some students are failing but are still putting a ton of effort in. Something just isn't going quite right for them. So the extra review may fix something they thought they got but really didn't get.

Sure there are people who really don't try and this may help them too...but it probably won't help them as much. In the end those people will probably get stuck somewhere else.

I think it's very nice that the instructors realize something may be going on here that requires them to help out.

I think doing poorly on a test when the person may have really tried and not coming to class are 2 different things.

I had a sociology class. So easy it wasn't even funny...but fun and educational. It was a great class. There are some girls who felt like they could skip on a regular basis. It's my understanding their grades reflected that. I was so annoyed they wouldn't come but I would be there even though I had a lot of kids at home and other responsibilities and these 18-20 year olds didn't come because it was lame. But in the end...I got the better grade because I did what was right.

So there is also a difference between doing poorly and trying really hard and doing poorly and just not giving a rat's behind....you probably have both in the class and those who really have been trying do deserve a shot.
