Does your school have a student health center? Is there a county hospital near where you live? Do yuo qualify for any type of government funding?

Wow..that's a lot of money. Up here we're lucky because all the check ups are covered by our health plan so the only thing we have to pay for is the CPR certification and all the books. I think we need to pay for the uniforms as well. I hear your frustration. How are you going to pay for the actual course if you don't mind me asking. Maybe if you have a school loan they can fit in the extras? Talk to the school and explain it to them. I'm pretty sure the've run into this situation before and can suggest ways to help or for you to get help. Good luck. {{{{{{hug}}}}}}

I was thinking the same thing as above. You should get enough in your student loans to cover it. If you don't have that yet, then I would use a charge card, then reimburse myself through loans.

I get a large pell grant, but I can't touch any of that money til August. That's where my prob is. aaarrrgghh. If only I had a credit card, but I thought I was always being smart by not having one. lol. now I can't apply for one because I am unemployed. lol, and what's so crazy, I have been calling the school since Thursday, NO answer. It's so frustrating. I am going to check into all of the things you all have suggested. Thanks for replying:)

I would apply for the credit card anyway. The credit card companies won't have any way to know that you are unemployed unless you tell them. In all of the credit cards that I have ever had, I've never had one call to verify my employment or annual income. Good luck!

I should have re-stated that I'm in Canada so our health care is free so to speak. We pay HUGE taxes to have it though but it is handy. I know we also have health insurance at the University which costs like 90.00$ for the whole year. I'm getting a school loan. Welcome to debt land!

Yes, be careful with those cards. They're tempting, but a dangerous trap to get into. That's all you need is financial worries on top of school. Stick with the Pell $, there's usually money left over after the tuition is paid to use for your books, uniform, extras you need. Check out local clinics and hospital in your area for the shots and exam. Ask your school if they have any recommendations for students on a limited income as to how they can obtain their supplies. Our school's graduate nurses often donate their uniforms for the upcoming students. Maybe this is an option for you.

Does your area offer "work source" I know for a fact that they payed for my friends uniforms, books tutuion, gas and various other fees. If I were you (and I have done this before) literally throw yourself on the mercy of financial aid. Beg, Plead, Cry... I KNOW there is always something they can do to help. You just gotta motivate them enough. :chuckle
