I'm about to wrap up a BSN on May 10th. I'm very excited! Of course, I now plan on taking the NCLEX within the next two months post-graduation.

I'm looking for any kind of advice that anyone can give me for a new grad that is about to take the NCLEX. Any NCLEX tips? Job interviews? First job? General nursing tips?

Thanks everyone!

Congratulations! Our pinning is May 9!

Have you been searching for a job yet? Don't forget any connections you made in nursing school, clinicals, etc. I connected with a nurse manager in clinicals, and I have a job (in my desired specialty!!) waiting for me once I'm licensed. I found out last night that a friend of mine (actually moving to OH after graduation) has an old customer from his old job who is good friends with a nurse out there that specializes in a very specific area that interests him, and organized the licensing body for that specific area! Reach out- you never know who may hold that perfect job for you.

Wow- those are some loaded questions...where to start...

First, take your NCLEX as soon as you feel comfortable, don't delay. You are still in the "test mode".... stay in it! I had a delay in taking my exam due to relocating to another state. I had started working, but it was really challenging to learn a new job and study for boards. And, of course, practice those questions! I recommend a test taking strategy book - I used a Kaplan book late in the game - wish I had it in school. Really will help you analyze the questions.

Start looking for a job now! As mentioned, hopefully you made some connections while in school. Now is the time to call in all those favors! When starting your first job, remember what you learned, but be open to new ways, as long as they are safe and appropriate.

Happy tonhelpore, if you have more specific questions! Good luck!! - thenurseteacher.com
