I just started summer school last week and we are having a test on Thursday. I am so nervous not knowing what to expect. The chapters we covered are on infection control, laws and ethics, nursing today etc...just the basics. I am not sure whether it will be like a regular test or will she start the test off with critical thinking. Do you remember how your first test was?

Yeah I do. It was terrible actually. I also didnt know what to expect and yes although the material for the exam was somewhat similar to yours, it was all critical thinking NCLEX style questions. I remember my pencil shaking in my hand as the exam started. All I can say is.... its different... very different from A&P exams, Nutrition, Micro, etc. But I could tell you one thing, and that is: With time you get used to it, hopefully.

I expected application-type questions during my first test. I expect the worst during the test (i.e. critical thinking), which puts me in the mind set of having to study a little differently. The first test weren't exactly easier out of the 3 total but our instructors for the 2nd semester used a lot of critical/application type questions. (i.e. given a certain scenario, what would be your first nursing dx/intervention).

Now the first test may be more memorization of certain aspects of infection control, laws and ethics, nursing today, etc. You may want to ask the instructor or some 2nd semester students how they test. It might help.

You'll pick up on how an instructor tests after the 1st test and adjust your studying. Good luck.
