I hate psych!! - page 2

I had a test today. 58 out of 100 questions were psych. I dreaded taking this test because- you guessed it- I HATE PSYCH. I will die a happy woman if I never hear the name Erickson again. And if... Read More

I've got a Bachelors Degree in Psych! :stone And my favorite was abnormal psych. Guess I'm odd?

What really chaps my keester is that I have to take Intro to Psych AGAIN for my ADN...because apparently it has been over 10 years since I took the intro class. Of course it doesn't matter that I have taken upper level classes in it within the past 9 years. Grrrr. I could probably TEACH the class. I'm trying to just look at it as an "easy A" for me.

Congrats on the test though! I can relate...I felt the same way about Physics & Statistics when I was getting my Bachelors. :chuckle

I'd never had Intro. I'd had Abnormal Psych (clep'd out of Intro 21 years before -- 1 year too late to have it count for the ADN) and had worked in psych for 10 years when I enrolled in nursing school and they STILL made me take Intro. You are not alone.

Glad to hear that I'm not alone!

I think it's silly some of the things they make you take. Wish we could test out of them somehow, but - at least at my college - they don't have that option.

    Angelica,

Hmmmmmmm. You post that you have diseases of the liver and the gallbladder to thank. Very, Very interesting. A clear case of Somatorm disorder that has been turned into a delusion. Or maybe not. lol

    Ps. Congrats on your test.

I am so happy to have this BB to vent on. I am in a much happier place today, and no longer feel an overwhelming desire to shoot anyone, dead or alive. I think the human mind is fascinating, so I don't actually hate psych. What I dislike is that there are more than a few concepts that either overlap, or are fuzzy and ill-defined, or are presented in incomprehensible (to me) babble-speak. I feel I am being made to suffer because there are far too many people on this planet with an uncontrollable need to publish (and therefore BE someone). Wouldn't nursing school be ever so much more enjoyable if we didn't have to wade through all this theory crap (can I say crap on this board?) Of course, I realize that attitude is everything. I'm sure if I were more receptive to these theories I would appreciate them more. But I'm not and I don't.

Thanks for the diagnosis, Dr. Rapheal, but I destroyed my liver and gallbladder the old-fashioned way-- alcohol and cheeseburgers.

And how long have you felt this way?

I loved psych. Its fun. I had an especially good time doing my therapeutic communication paper on a pedophilic psychotic who kept seeing blood falling from the ceiling.

Weird. And yes, my paper was verbatim. So if there was an award for how many times a student used the 'f' word in her process recording, I would have won it.

I agree about the theory part, Angelica. We are in our first clinical class this semester and we are starting to have to write care plans, they are trying to teach it all to us in like a couple of class periods! And our intro class last year was nearly ALL theory, hardly any practical knowledge. In my opinion (and several of my classmates too), it could have been better spent teaching things like care plans and nurses notes and documentation- things we will really use!
