I hate microbiology!!!! :-(

Nursing Students General Students

Just saying. I find it difficult especially right now were learning about recombinant DNA eek. I start nursing school in September this is my last "per-requisite". Am I doomed??

Thanks everyone! I am just feeling frustrated with it because I've been doing well in Lecture (Where all the tests have been so far) and then I got a 72 on an exam... No lab exams yet.. We too are doing identifying an "Unknown" I just wish it was over already... I hope I don't turn out to be one of "Those" Nursing students.. :-( My dream has been nursing for OH-SO LONG! I finally start my program Sept 3rd.

Identifying the unknown is actually not as bad as it seems. It's a matter of narrowing down the field. Do the gram stain first-- you can rule out + or - based on that. Then look for motility. You can further narrow down from there-- it's really not difficult. In fact, it's kind of fun. ;)

Oh- and don't worry about being one of 'those' students. Everyone has their hard classes.. mine was chem!

Trust me, the DNA portion is the hardest part of micro. Lab will usually keep your grade high, especially the unknown :) I got lucky on my unknowns.

Take a deep breath, step back, tell yourself you can do this. Micro is definitely tough, but it's actually enjoyable, once you get past the DNA part :)

Best of luck to you & congrats on starting your nursing program!

Your not doomed. I hated micro but most people in my class loved it. I loved anatomy ?

I made it through my first year of nursing classes and loved them. I'm taking micro this summer and HATE it! With a passion! They do not need to be tied together, so don't worry. I am excited to hear that after DNA it gets better. :)

Agreed with this thread. All I hear is the hype about Micro and I'm like give me Chem. I want Chem. That's the way of the game though.. you can't love it all ;)

When I took Micro, I was very intimidated at the beginning of the semester, but I think that a lot of people feel that way because it is just such a different class from what you've been used to. Once you really start understanding the material and the difference in the way that you need to learn for the class, it won't be so bad, I promise. We did our "unknown" towards the end of the semester and it wasn't bad, it was just very time-consuming. We had to create a big visual chart on a piece of posterboard. So start early with that one, but I think you will be alright - just put in the study time and it will work out for you.
