I got a 78% on my first exam. - page 2

Blah! I'm so frustrated. My personal goal for the first test was 80% or at least a B. I made stupid mistakes and realized about 10 minutes after the test was over and I'm kicking myself now. 73%... Read More

In our school an 85% is the lowest you can have and still have a B. So on the test you can only miss 7 questions out of 50 and still get a B. We took our first test today and I know I missed at least 3, and probably at least 4, and maybe a couple more. I'm just hoping I missed no more than 7! Even if I still get a B on the test I know that I'm going to ace the next one because I'm going to push it harder!

I was so disapointed because I've studied so much and I still missed some questions. I was shooting for an A, but now I just want a B! I'll be so happy if I get a B!

Why is it that I study and study and thought I knew the stuff and then only barely pass? It was my first test to, I just want to know how I am going to make it. Are the first tests usually the hardest??

My instructor said the first test is the toughest for most people because we don't know what to expect. The disadvantage for me is that I've never had to use critical thinking to answer questions on a test. It was either I knew the answer or didn't. I hope that as time goes on, I'll get better at answering those types of questions. Our first test was on 12 chpts./3 units but we were primarily questioned on the nursing process and communications. Our instructors told us that the number of questions per chpt. would depend on the number of hours spent on that chpt. with the exception of the Ethics chpt. which even though it was small, we really needed to pay attention to it in our study prep. Guess what, we had one question on the ethics chapter.

Anyway, I'm determined to do better on my next exam. Guess that means I need to get off of this computer and go to the library. :studyowl:

I agree, you did great! I find the first test is the hardest - regardless of the material. You usually have not had the professor before, so you're unsure exactly what the test questions are like and what/how to study. After you get the first one out the way, you have a much better idea how to prepare. I bet you surpass your goal for exam 2! Good luck!
I feel the same way about first exams. I just took my first test in nursing theory and got an 80%. I was way disappointed, but there will be more tests and I know I will do better. I bet you will too.
