I am so exicted!

Nursing Students General Students

I just found out I got a job as a nurse assistant in the Emergency Department! They are going to send me to phlebotomy class, Ekg, and others that I haven't been told about yet. Has anyone had experience in the ED, and can you please share that with me? I am excited and nervous, but I think this will help me learn a lot of different things that will benefit me in nursing school (I am a first semester student). Do you agree with that? Thanks for any and all advice. :)

I worked as an ER tech for almost a year. It was very exciting and educating! You never know what is going to happen next.

You will learn a lot! I can't tell you how many times I got stuck on an exam and recalled some experience that I had in the ER to help me get the right answer.

You will love it!!

Congradulations!!!!!! I am a new RN and precepted in ER during school. This is a great opportunity to learn alot. I found ER nurses to be very helpful in explaining things, from my experience they are great teachers.

Ask to see everything. Let them know you are interested. Also remember that in the ER the protocol is to admit the patient or discharge the patient. Sometimes this can be frustrating when a client is discharged and you wished you could have done more.

Working trauma can be very nerve wracking, so just go with the flow. I saw more people die in the ER in a week then I had ever seen my whole life (car accidents, suicides, burns, MI'S). So be prepared to see some of that. Good luck and God bless. Lisa
