I am nervous!

Hello All!

I just started Nursing 1 and so far so good, but lately I have been hearing such horror stories from other students. The stories such as...the dropout rate, students failing the last semester and having to retake, and students just failing because they are bad test takers. I tend to be optomistic in situations but this one I am a real downer. I am sooo scared. I want to be a nurse but I don't want to get to 4th semester only to hear I failed. I have been studying non-stop and put all other things to the side. I am not working and I have no children except I am married. My husband is in total support of me but will all this help me pass? I am 32 and have been out of school for some time.

Also, the teas and critical test I only ranked in the 50%. I was average with national and program but others scored so much higher than me.

Just looking for some encouragement!

PS Love this board!

You can do it...it's ok to be scared. Keep your chin up and your eyes on your goal, work hard. I love this analogy, when you're scared out of your wits, be like a duck: calm and unruffled on the surface, but paddling like hell under water.

Relax, you will be fine. I wish I could take my own advice. I start Nursing School in August and Im scared to death! I tend to doubt myself a lot and Im so worried I will panick during clinicals or check offs and not preform to my ability. Im am also 32 years old. I have 3 children and a soon to be ex husband. I have been going through a divorce for like 2 years now..ughhh..well i wish you the best, Im sure you will persevere

Let me tell you that you aren't alone in being nervous...it comes with the territory. I'm gett ready to start my 3rd semester (out of 4) and I am nervous. I do this to myself every semester, I freak myself out so bad that I can't sleep at night and I am anxious all during the day. The biggest thing you have to learn to do is to not listen to other students (unless you really trust them). Everyone's experience is different in school, things one student finds difficult may be easy for you. As for the dropout and failure rates, this can be for many reasons sometimes life just gets in the way. Do yourself a favor and try to just calm down (Man do I need to take my own advice...LOL) take it one test at a time and let the negative opinions of others be that just opininons. Good luck and I am sure you will be just fine.

Make your fear work FOR you, not the other way around. Prove those statistics wrong!! Use your fear in a good way and I think it might actually help you. Good Luck!!!! You have the desire to do well which I think is a big part of accomplishment in the Nursing field.
