Hi my fellow Nursing Students

I want to know how old were you when you started Nursing school. RN's and LPN's are welcome to answer.

I'm in my early 30's, married with three babies, ages five and under. I'm a little nervous and worried that I may have started a little late at following my dream to become a nurse.

Thanks everyone:D

I spent two years taking pre-reqs at a CC and then transferred into a BSN program last fall at 24. I start my junior year September 5th and will graduate May 2015 at 27! I was so worried I'd be the oldest person there but there are a few people my age and some people in their 30s, and we've got the work experience to help us!:)

I was 27

Specializes in Behavioral Health.

Started a BSN program this week at age 21. :)

I'm 26 and start school Sept 4th! I'll be 2 months shy of my 29th birthday when I finish in August 2015. Once I pass the NCLEX, my plan is to work and take the rest of my pre-reqs for my BSN. I hope to start a RN-BSN program within a couple years of graduating from my hospital diploma program. My ultimate goal is to get my MSN and teach! I am a single mom to a 15 month old so I know I'm in for a challenge but I'm so excited and ready to get started.

I'm turning 34. Better late than never as they say.

My first day of nursing school was my 27th birthday. I'm turning 29 in a week and will be done in December. I have a 9 year old and a 5 year old.

Specializes in PACU, pre/postoperative, ortho.

Started at 34 & graduated just before turning 36. Went to high school with one of my instructors :)

Specializes in ICU.

I started at age 27 and graduated from my associates program at 29 and my RN-to-BSN at 30. I think 30-35 was probably the average age of the people in my programs. However, if you are attending a school that is a 4 year university (that has dorms) you might tend to find more younger students. If you are going to a community college, I think you will see more of a mix.

I'm finishing my last 2 pre-reqs and (knock on wood) starting nursing program in January. I'm 38, and sometimes feel a lot older than my classmates, but when I think that I will be working for at least another 20 years, I don't want to waste those years in a crap job wishing I was following my dream.

I'm 36 and a fresh graduate.. I totally understand your nerves I said the same "I'll be nearly 37 when I graduate " "I'm too old" .. My husband said "you're going to be 37 either way" He was right now fixing to turn 37 I'm glad I'm going to be 37 and a nurse not 37 still wishing I was a nurse.. Go for it !

I'm 39 and am just about to start my second semester of prerequisites.

I started an ADN program at my local community college on Weds Aug 21. I am 40 with 3 kids ages 15, 9 and 7. I have BA in History and I have been working on nursing prereq's for the last 2 years, I have all the prereq's completed to do an RN to BSN program. You are never too old. Most of the people in my section (we take all 1st semester classes together) are in their 30's and 40's, those that are in their 20's are in their mid to late 20's. I took the Accuplacer to go back to school 16 years after I obtained my BA, it also happened to be my 38th birthday that day, I also wondered if I was too old, if I had waited too long to go back to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse. I was terrified for classes to start in the fall, realizing the 18 yo incoming freshmen weren't even born when I graduated from high school. I have found my age and maturity to be an asset. You are never too old to pursue your dreams. :)
