I failed out of a nursing program almost 4 years ago. I ended up going the LPN route. Now i am trying to go back for my RN and alot of schools are telling me that since I failed out of a RN program they can not accept me. Does anyone have any advise for me. I have tried LIU, ASA, most cuny schools and even the school I went to a Suny college got rid of their night and weekend classes. So I would have to quit my job to go back, and it is not guaranteed. Please someone help me!! I did get accepted to Excelsior, I am scared of the whole online thing.

And Adelphi? Pace University? Nassau Community College? Touro college? Oy, not looking too good for you I guess :(

Hi 2B, how is your experience at the swedish institute? I know by your post being last year you are already a year in. How is the grading? I know you have to attain a 80 avg. I just got in the school. i am hearing mixed reviews about the school. My experience so far has been excellent though, but then again it's only the beginning part. Your response and advice would be huge. Thanks for your time. :)

I did the same thing...usually RN programs accept LPNs. Most educators state once you have proven to go through a rigorous program such as a PN program, that erases that failure, since you proved that you competed a nursing program. And it's been 4 years removed, so most places couldn't even count it against you; not is it transferable.

I just wanted to let you know most who don't succeed the RN route to first time do the LPN route, are successful, and go on to ASN and BSN programs successfully.

Look into which schools are "LPN friendly"; cast your net wide and interview with the schools and let them look over your pre-req's as well. If you have to get into a weekday program; you may have to look for weekend work or a home health position if possible.

I don't think it's impossible for you to get into a RN program. I'm not sure why they would discount you after PROOF of going through a rigorous program...for one school that doesn't, there are plenty brick and motar schools that WILL accept you.

It would be easier for you if you just did an online program.

Hi. just wondering how it went at swedish institute I'm in the application process.

I failed out of nursing school back in 2008. I applied to a new school last April and got accepted my first try. It depends on why you failed too. Poor grades vs. something on your academic record like failing clinicals, patient harm, or cheating are two different ball games.

Be very careful with Excelsior. Some states will not accept that as adequate education for an RN. Even if you were able to pass NCLEX and get an RN license in a state that accepts it, others might refuse you an RN license by reciprocity. Yes, they can do that.

Try to take some higher-level college courses as an unenrolled student (that would count for prerequisites if possible) to demonstrate that you are now mature enough to study better and succeed in academics. Those will work in your favor and make your academic load lighter when you are in the nursing programs.
