Happy News... I got a scholarship!

  1. I received a piece of mail from my school and thought, hmmm what could this be? Opened it up discovered I had been awarded a $1000 scholarship for the Spring semester! It was awarded based upon my academic acheivement since returning to school in January and was awarded directly by the Foundation of my Nursing school.
I am so thrilled!! I am a returning student with a prior degree and I have never been awarded a scholarship before. It is sooo nice to see my hard effort rewarded. This scholarship will pay almost 60% of my spring tuition and is a very welcome surprise!
Now I have an even higher motivation to work harder than ever to keep my scholarship for each semester!
    Just wanted to share!

Just wondering if you had to apply for it or not. I have been looking at applying for scholarships. The school I am at had me sign a piece of paper and list my gpa and that was about it. It sounded like they would refer me to any from that or something. I have been finding that for being 38 and having previous education that there isn't really much out there to apply for in scholarships. Seems like I either too old, not in a minority group, have too many assets and with hubby working it puts us as not in a finanical need.

I was told by the financial aid advisor that all current and incoming students are automatically entered into the scholarship pool. It is academic based, but they also look at financial need. I had only qualified for loans b/c my husband makes too much, but we are really in financial stress due to my not working to go back to school. Anyway, I'm not sure if I would have received more funds or even a full scholarship if I had been deemed "financially needy" on my FAFSA, but I'm just happy to receive anything at all.

Yeah, I am in the same situation. I am not working much so we are financially strapped but yet hubby makes too much. In the past I have worked fall sugarbeet harvest which lasts about a month and have done some horse training. Now that I have started school I am not able to do much of the beet harvest at all and I will have to see how the horse training goes this spring. I usually only take horses in the spring, summer, fall months. Winter is too cold up here. I don't usually take more then 3 at a time each month to work with. I started my first semester this past aug but i didn't do any of the training. I lost my 2 yr old son the first part of aug, with that and trying to do my classes I figured that the horse training would be too much then. Funny thing is that I recently raised my rates up for I was getting some rift raft calling. I was thinking I was cutting out alot of people for clients but I have actually been getting alot of interest and quite a few people placing a deposit for this spring. I wasn't too worried about not getting alot of interest for I was taking my classes as a priority. I am now starting to wonder thou if I am gonna have to start turning people down on bringing horses in.
