Hello,

Would anyone happen to know of any grants or scholarships for nursing school? I'm really wanting to continue my education but unable to afford it. Any help you could give would be so appreciated!

Check the college handbook of one near you.

It should have several pages of locally created scholarships.

There's also national ones available.

Also check at your local hospitals HR department. I received an $8000 scholarship for the two year program. Part of the scholarship is that I agree to work at the facility for two years. But hey....its a guaranteed job after graduation.

Workforce Investment Act...Yep get some of that "stimulus" money that's still floating around. You can get about $8000 without paying it back as long as to pass your classes plus they help you find work after you graduate. To apply you have to be accepted into nursing school and go to your local government employment center. Some call it WIA Scholarship .Other states it may have a different name for it. Search WIA Scholarship "your state name"

The WIA scholarships in Arkansas have been frozen until Oct 1. They won't be able to help until then and I am assuming that's for all states.

That happened to me last year December, but I still took the scholarship orientation course and TABE because the courses valid for 6 months. Once I was done I kept bothering them every 2-3 weeks with phone calls and occasional emails because sometimes they don't get back to you if funds do come in. Eventually they responded got funds for me in March. Openings do come up, you just gotta be persistent. I know someone else who also got funds for summer.

Ok. Thank you. I have tried everything and cannot find any s gloats hips to help for the fall, I'm in an PN program and will be done June 2014. I may be on my own unless WIA comes through.

I googled scholarships honestly and found a ton that way. I'm going into my last year of PN too and we are in school until July. I get OSAP $$, but it's never enough. I found one website Free Scholarship Search | Studentawards.com â€" Find Canadian scholarships, grants, bursaries and money for school . It will bring up scholarships from all over the US & Canada and it updates regularly! Good Luck

I have found a lot but when I read the restrictions i run on to problems or I have missed the deadline

thanks for your tip man-nurse2b, but it says that in order to qualify, Applicants must have been laid off, with no opportunity to be rehired to receive a training grants.

I wasn't laid off and I received it

EHow is not exactly a reputable source. At the time I was making $40,000/year at the time I applied. I'm no longer working now but thats cause I quit my job for school. Sorry ehow is information is partially true.

How it works is it goes by income and number of people in your family. I got kids and wife, so I was easily within the income bracket required. WIA also what to make sure you have some source of funding for day to day living sure as food , pay bills etc. Laid off workers can take advantage of this if they can't find a job and decide to go back to school, but that was not my case. There are different parts of the program. Best to just go to the employment center and ask about Scholarships directly. Some colleges may have partnerships and will also be able to give reliable information.

Direct sources like this for Central Florida. They call it the WorkSource funds scholarships. Different States may call it a different name, even different counties. Again one can clearly see, you either can be laid off or meet income requirements. This is not only for nurses. Nursing has to be on the list of in demand jobs for your states and your school of choice has to be an approved school.
