Grading scale for Nusing school???

Anyone else have a more strict grading scale in their school?? We have to get a 93% for and A and 85% for a B. Are your schools similar?

We have to have 845 points out of 945 to pass with a C.

That is basically an 89% if you do the math. A lot of our points come from just going to class and completing things we were told to complete. But we are only allowed to miss 100 points total, so if you miss a clinical, you lose 20 points every time...

At my CC:

92 -100 A

91.99 -85 B

84.99 - 80 C

79.99 = fail

(no +/- which really messes with my GPA

Ours is strict too...93-100 A, 92-85 B, 84-80 C..anything less than 80% is failing. Our Fundamentals class was ridiculously hard with two STUPID teachers (I'm sorry...I learned NOTHING from them...only from the book and my clinical instructor)...NO one in the class made an A, there were only 2 B's and then 35 C's. That should have told them something. I made an A in Pharmacology but a C in Fundamentals because I had an 84.47. It's BS...I'm sorry yours is the same way.

At my university (in Canada)

Less than 60% is a fail

60-69% is a C

70-79% is a B

80%+ is an A

Although I am curious as to whether the difficulty of the programs are the same. I mean, if I were a B-average student, would I be failing in a US nursing program that required an 80% to pass? It'd be interesting to see how I did at a school in the States :uhoh21:

Hey Utopia - As a student whose done work in Canada and the States, I can tell you almost 100% that you would absolutely NOT be failing in the states just because you're used to an 80 being an A. Teachers make tests with their grading scales in mind, and essays too. I *think* that the difference is that in the states finals tend to be worth way less and there are more tests whereas, at least for me here, my science finals are worth at least 70% if not 80 or more - a lot more unreasonable to expect students to sit down in a week and be tested on the material for an entire semester (in all their classes), in one exam, and make an A 93 or up.

I've said this before on another thread, but it's worth repeating - the absolute grading scale is not the be all end all of deciding your mark. I've taken courses at schools where a 93 is an A and ones where 85 is, and it's been way harder to get it at the latter. Go figure, grading is crazy business.

My grading scale is a little easier then the ones posted on here. Mine goes as follows:

A-----86+

A- 80-85

B+ 77-79

B 74-76

B- 70-73

C+ 67-69

C 63-66

To pass my program you require to have a 63 © to continue to next semester.

Oh my gosh anne5852002.................I wish our grading scale was that easy....My school is as following

100-91=A

90-81=B

80-76-C

Anything below 76 is a failure.............example 75.9 they DONT round up.

here's my school's:

96 - 100% = a

92 - 95% = a-

88 - 91% = b+

84 - 87% = b

80 - 83% = b-

78 - 79% = c+

76 - 77% = c

90-100 A, 80-89 B, 75-79 C, anything below 75 is failing. Some of the grading scales seem a bit ridiculous.

Ofcourse, this is what I remember from my BS degree 20 years ago too. I remember coming back to school for pre req's and thinking "Sweet! I only have to get a 90 to get an A!"

BSN program and this is what the scale looks like:

93-100= A

90-92= B+

89-86= B

83-85= C+

76-82= C

73-75= D+

70-72= D

-We have to get at least a 76 to continue in the program!
