Grades- do instructors round up?

Hi =)

I was just wondering if instructors will generally round up to the nearest whole number when it comes to grades? In our nursing student handbook, it only states that 95-100% is an A, 93-94% is an A- and so on....so if I got a 94.7% in a class....is that an A- cause it is below 95%, or is it an A because it should be rounded up? Final grades aren't posted yet, and i would kind of like to know....and yes I know I'm a nerd ;-)

Our instructors don't round up: whatever you earned is your grade and that's that. We've had more than one student miss a B or an A (we don't have plus/minus grades) by a fraction of a percent. Ask me how I know this ;)

In the programs in which I've taught -- NO. If you are flunking out by 2/10 of a point, you flunk out. If you have a 94.7 and an A is 95, you don't get the A. Etc.

No rounding at my school.

Nope, no rounding here either. What you get is what you get. We've had plenty fail out due to fraction of a point.

depends on the professor here, they get to set their scale and method.

My schools does, but it depends on your instructor. My final grade was 86.5 and she gave me an 87! I was surprised, this was a hard class for me (Maternal/Peds nursing). I was definitely expecting a C.

Heck no! No rounding at all. We had 6 people fail this semester. We have to have an 80, and people failed with an 79.8! Scary. I personally think that is a little absurd. I mean .02 of a point. Especially for all the money we pay, and all the work (careplans, clinical) that we do and get NO points for!

They round at my school. Thank God, because I know a lot of my classmates needed just a 74.5 to get out of the class.

They do not round at my school, however, I believe they will not fail a person by .02 points. This is ridiculous! I have to pay a lot per credit and I would not settle for that. Not with this recession.

How could you not settle for the grade your worked for and received? Im missing something.

Why wouldn't they fail someone by .02%? If a student doesn't earn enough points to pass the class, that's that. I don't know why they should be given a "freebie" .02%. Where should the line be drawn? Should a student be given a free 1%? Or 2%? In my opinion, you get what you get, and if you don't earn enough to pass then you should fail. It has nothing to do with how much money you are paying for the course. You are not BUYING your license, you are EARNING it (which just so happens to also cost money). I would be pretty nervous if a nurse giving me meds passed her pharm class just because she spent a lot of money on the class but she really didn't know what the heck she was doing :eek:.

BTW, if you are right on the line for passing/failing, maybe you should retake the class and master it anyway. I think you have to be pretty confused about the material or have slacked on the assignments to get a 75% (the line for passing at my school). I really hope any time I am sick in the hospital that my nurse was at least in the 80% range!

Sorry if this sounds harsh...I'm just sick of hearing people (mainly my classmates) whining about their grades and why didn't the professor round up waaah waaah waah :sniff:. The bottom line is, you get what you earned, and it has NOTHING to do with money.
