Good size for a nursing class

  1. Hey, just wondering if you learn more with a smaller class size or a larger class size. I am still trying to decide between two different schools that I have been accepted and one has a class size of 23 and the other 45. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Angie

I don't know personally, but my thoughts are this:

I would really think when it comes right down to it, it depends on the instructor and curriculum. I also think it depends on how much personal attention you want. I know that almost all the classes I am taking in the fall (at least the nursing classes, not the core curriculum ones) have more than one instructor for our class. I am unsure of how many will be in my class but I am pretty sure it's somewhere around 35-40 if I remember correctly. I'm not much help...just trying to give you something to think about. I would weigh the pros and cons of both schools and not judge simply by class size.

I don't think the total class size matter very much. It is the size of the clinical groups that is important. Sitting in a lecture class with 23 vs. 45 people won't really matter. Being in a clinical group with 5 students vs. 10 students is a very big difference. Our clinical group has 10 people and the instructor is spread very thin.

Good luck which ever school you choose!

Thanks for responding. My problem is I only have a week to decide and I have found out information from one school, but the other one is on spring break and I am unable to speak with the program director or for that matter anyone. I know they both have a 95% pass rate or better and I have the student handbook for one school, but the other one does not give you one until you accept or deny. I am really struggling between the two. I have posted before that one is a 20 minute longer drive, but the clinicals are there. The shorter drive has a 45 minute longer drive to the clinicals. I have no idea about the curriculum for the school which is on spring break as I don't have a handbook and their website is down to check their schedule. I am trying to make a decision based on my best interest, but maybe I will just have to go with what my heart says is best. Thanks for the advice.
