I am so excited...after months of studying/exams/labs/validations, I finally gave my first injection today! I administered 5000u Heparin SQ in the abdomen of a pt with acute pancreatitis. She was admitted with severe abdominal pain and just about jumped out of the bed when I told her she was to be given an injection in her abdomen, but as I assessed the site I explained to her that the injection was going into the soft subcutaneous tissue, not deep, and that it wouldn't aggrevate her condition. The BEST part... she said "that's IT?" after I had given the injection and said it didn't hurt at all! It makes me happy to know that I was able to ease her anxiety about the injection and administer it without causing pain. I guess all those hours practicing in the lab worked!
