Hi everyone! Registered here coz I'm so confused and needed some advise. So I'm in my prereq to get into the nursing program but i really did bad on A&P 1. I had dropped it and got F's and passed the 4th time :( . Now, the A and P 2. I'm passing the lab but not the lecture. My instructor advised me to consider other option in medical field and go back to nursing whenever I'm ready. But what makes me sad is I only needed this class and microbiology and I'm done with my prereq. What should I do? Should I drop? If I don't would I be able to get a job in the future with my messed up transcript? All advises will be appreciated. Thank you very much.

Is it only this course causing trouble? Have you tried tutoring?

You need decent grades for the nursing program to progress and graduate. A job will come after school & NCLEX.

And good grades will be necessary if you have any intentions for advanced graduate studies.

Good luck.

Don't worry about a job - I doubt you will get into nursing school at all with F's on your transcript. Nursing schools are very competitive and there are people with 3.5 or higher GPAs who don't get in or get waitlisted. I think you should look at what you are struggling with and take some time to correct that. Is it your life situation? Do you have a learning disorder (maybe undiagnosed)? Are you bad at time management? If it has taken you 4 times to pass a prerequisite course, you're going to struggle in actual nursing school.

Sorry but just passing a class in the pre-reqs isnt enough. You have to remember, getting into nursing school is competitive essentially anywhere you go. At this moment in time I would have to agree with your counselor, if you're struggling that mightily with just anatomy and physiology this may not be your calling unfortunately. Nursing is a tough subject to study and an even tougher job to have. I want to save you money and any additional heartache you may encounter. The only way I could see it working is if you dropped your current 2 classes and retook all your pre-reqs and got 3.5s and above in them (ideally a 3.8 is marginally safe). If youre unwilling to make changes to your study habits (all of the bio classes are just rote memorization with only Chem and stats needing application really) or time management then I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Took and drops classes due to some personal reason. Yes, this is the only subject I'm having a hard time. Thank you.

Do you mean I'll start from scratch?

A lot of students in my anatomy and physiology classes have struggled for very legitimate reasons as well and generally the best idea is to either postpone nursing school until, say, the kids get a bit older or whatever the issue may be, or opt for a different field. If you can't pass these classes with ease, personally I think it'd be very, very difficult to enter nursing school and do well.

If you're having serious trouble passing your pre-reqs (and it wasn't caused by a unique set of circumstances that won't happen again), I'd re-consider your plans for nursing school. Assuming you get into school, your academic work won't get any easier, so you'll probably have a lot of trouble.

You need to wait until you are ready. What school allows you to repeat a class 4 times? What kind of gpa do you have? You need to take some time, get your personal life together, and then come back.

A&P are the foundation of nursing. You need a solid handle on it. It's not just about passing the classes. It's about retaining what you have learned too.

Do you really want to be nurse and do you know what you are signing yourself up for? Maybe if it is in your heart to do it, you will do better. You can turn things around but your will have to work very hard and let this be an example of what is to come. Many nursing jobs look at the GPA and nursing schools are getting stricter about repeats. You don't want to get at the very end of a nursing program and fail a class that causes you to have to repeat the whole nursing program. You will be very upset. I also want to tell you that I had to take a test for the nursing job that I just got.

You'll really need a strong grasp of this stuff in order to be successful in nursing school, and then as a nurse. Getting into nursing school is incredibly competitive, so that will be your first concern. Jobs won't ask for a transcript, unless you're applying for a new grad program, and not all of them ask for one.

I made the mistake a long time ago of taking anatomy, physiology, and micro all at the same time while working two jobs (A&P are two separate 5 unit classes at my school). I ended up with 2 Fs and a D, and about lost my sanity. I had to overcome that to get into nursing school. No jobs have asked for my transcript, but I will tell you I am REALLY glad I have a better grasp of those subjects, because they are incredibly relevant to our job.

If you haven't already, go through some of the posts in this forum from nursing school students. They are incredibly stressed out, even with As and Bs in school, because nursing school goes at lightning speed compared to prereqs. It's a struggle to keep up, even for the strongest students. Getting those study skills down now will pay off later. Get a tutor and figure out the techniques that work best for you.

Nursing isn't for everyone. It's a very stressful job, even for those of us who really truly love it. There will be days you wonder if you will survive, wonder if you made the right choices, wish you had done XY and Z for your patient when you're laying in bed that night. You'll have patients who ask you questions that go back to the classes you're taking now. If this stuff isn't doing it for you, and it doesn't stick with you, it might be wise to consider other professions.

Good luck whatever path you choose!

Why are you concerned about a job? That is cart in front of the horse. You need to focus on NOW.

Here is the situation. Either 1. You are literally studying non stop and simply are unable to pass the class and then nursing won't be in your future as these requirements don't disappear. or 2. You are not studying enough and putting in max effort. If this is the case then you have to put forth more effort.

Simple.
