Hi Ginger's Mom, thank you for reading my article. I actually have been reading about how the CA board of nursing is denying graduates from the Philippines, however I do know some close friends who were able to find a way to study those extra units and become eligible to take the NCLEX. I will do whatever it takes to become a licensed nurse because I know in my heart it is my passion. Thank you!
With your attitude you will go far no matter what you do, keep us informed of your journey.

Very nice and moving article, thanks! It reminds me of missing home and college life!

Your close friends that were able to study the extra units was that in CA or back in the Phils? If in CA, did they take them in the Nor CAL or So CAL area? Can you find out the cost? Any information you can share with us will help as many are struggling to even find such school(s). Was this of recent classes?

Hi steppybay, thank you for reading my article. I'm glad you can empathize with my experience.

According to my friends, there are a list of schools provided by the California Board of Registered Nursing. My friends said you can look at their website and just research all the schools there are. Most of them were from the south so they are taking their extra units around that area. I know it's going to be a tough road ahead, especially with the stricter enforcement of the law and concurrency issues but like I said before, if one is really passionate for what they want, it will be done!

I just sent all of the application requirements to the board last April 16. I'll update everyone with what happens next.

By the way, are you also in this same sticky situation? Thanks for the comment again!

Yes, I've been stuck for over a year now like so many kababayans.

That list of schools and colleges approved by the CA BON your friends mentioned are the same ones that everyone here in these forums can not even find one to attend (yet), as many of the schools have nothing to offer or one must take the entire nursing program over again or there's only 1-2 spots open and that's with about 3 possible schools.

There are more possible schools in the So CAL area vs the northern area, but it seems that your friends might be the only ones that successfully got into the near impossible programs to make up for the deficiencies and then get their ATT's in CA. Those are some very very fantastic odds! Good luck to them and hope they all pass the NCLEX-RN, as they are then some of the most luckiest people in the world!!

Good luck to all! Good luck to your application, maybe you are a 2013 grad and might be able to get thru the concurrency problems that's been plaguing 99.5% of recent PH grads.

hi there stepphybay, I know how frustrating it is to follow the BRN advice of contacting schools and colleges if they are willing to accommodate students in our situation for classes in MS and OB. I have been following this trend before graduation and moving back to the US. However do not give up!!! I was denied too and even though discouraged it just motivated me to contact more schools and universities that along with the power of prayer I was able to find a school that fitted all the criteria the board wants. I graduated last March 2012 and I started applying to schools everyday once I learned of the horrible true that extra units are needed. the power of prayer and a series of fortunate events led me to find a school. I was able to enroll in November and finish both MS and OB on time by the end of late February. I just received my ATT last month and now its just a couple weeks until my testing date. just hang in there and never give up on your dream of being a RN.

Congrats, you're the FIRST to report that someone finally made it! Was this school in So CAL or Nor CAL? What was the cost? What's the name of this school? What was their spots availability to foreign students? thanks!

You should post up your findings to this topic from the World section: http://allnurses.com/nurse-registrat...ng-806046.html

Or post up your own personal struggles and positive results in the World section, Nurse Registration tab.

    Everyone needs some encouragement!! Thanks!

Good luck in getting your ATT and passing the NCLEX-RN!!!

I'm sorry the school that I was able to enroll to was out of state and they were in the process of renewal of CCNE accreditation so I took the risk of going to that school knowing that there was a chance that it might not even be approved. I was desperate, but luckily the were approved in January. I asked the dean now that the school is accredited if they were going to continue accepting foreign students with the same dilemma as me. They accepted five foreign students after me, 2, were my batch-mates, However what I've been hearing is that they are struggling just to pass the class and might even fail. Im not to sure if the board will approve their transcript from this university if they do not pass. Its kind of sad if they do not pass tuition came out to be 12000 with board and lodging. because of this, they plan to have a waiting list along with certain measures to ensure that they keep with the standard of CCNE, accreditation. They even denied my other batch mate because of this for the summer which is terrible because she is a hard worker too, So I say to you and to all, if you are able to find a school that will accept you, don't take it for granted, study hard, play later.

What state did you get the deficient classes done at? I'm surprised that the CA BON accepted the out of state courses, as it was told to us those must be taken in CA. I would think you would have to get approved in that other state since the out of state course must be accepted by the CA BON.

What was the name of the school?
