fluids and electrolytes

  1. Help...I am having the hardest time with Ca, K+, and Na+, and the differences in s/s...can anyone give any suggest. on how to keep them straight...

    Make lists or flashcards. It helps if you get to see these things clinically. I actually got to see someone having carpopedal spasms due to low calcium levels following surgery when the surgeon accidentally removed a parathyroid gland during her thyroidectomy. I will never forget that. At one point in my life my potassium level went very low and how well I remember my own symptoms. One of the memory techniques I used to do to help remember lists of symptoms that were making absolutely no sense to me was to make up some sort of little story about them so I could recall them easily.
