Hey all! I am in my first semester of NS and as a part of our program we have to do, at minimum, one flu shot clinic. With that being said, we have never done any IM injections on human beings and I am nervous to do it! Any advice?

You will likely be nervous for your first few (some people any even draw up the vaccine because they are shaking) but it is normal and it will quickly pass and you will be an expert by the end.
  5. Guide
the trick is to pop it in fast. Don't worry. Most people will not realize if you are nervous.
  6. It's definately not that bad. My suggestions look at the person before administering. Not everyone needs the same length needle and remember you can use a shorter one if necessary or not stick it all the way in if they're pre-filled. Of course you can angle as well. Basically, it's really not that hard just be quick and smooth. Have fun!
  7. Oh, and avoid the initial reaction of pulling the needle back out! I have seen quite a few students stick someone and immediately pull the needle put in reaction.
  8. You will do great! Remember to aspirate first! My friend and I were giving flu shots a few weeks ago during our clinical and she drew up blood on her 2nd pt!
  9. Good luck! I'm doing it in 2 weeks (1st. Semester) I'm nervous too. Let me know how you do!
