Financial Aid question...

Hello everyone! I used to post here about a year ago, but my school got put on hold, so I haven't been here forever!

Anyway, I used to attend a 4yr college about 13 years ago, earned about 96 credit hours because I kept changing majors, taking stupid classes, all that crazy stuff when you are right out of high school! Well, I am now trying to transfer to a 2 year nursing program, and this particular school has a financial aid rule that you cannot be qualified for loans if you have over 90 credit hours. I am currently writing an appeal to the dean, but don't know if it will work. I can get a loan through Bank of America, but the school has to certify it, and they won't. Are there any other options to getting money out there? I don't have good enough credit to get a personal loan. I also have three children, so paying out of pocket would really be a struggle for me.

Thanks for listening and for any advice! Oh, I am in MO is that makes any difference.

At my school, there is a statute of limitations clause on my grades. I used it to get rid of classes that I did really poorly in while I was in highschool, and it's like I never took them. Now, I don't know if you would want to do this or not, or if it's something that your old 4 year college even offers, but it would be a clean slate if you did it.

I have heard of that too. I thought that the grades you dropped were not used to calculate your gpa anymore, but they were still counted on your transcript. I will definitely check into it though.

Thanks!!

I was in that same predicament so I decided to go to a university and get a BSN, they do not have hour restrictions on financial aid at most universities. I know it's a big switch, but if financial aid is a must like it was for me, then I suggest checking into some BSN programs. Good luck!:)

It still shows up on my transcript that I took them, however, I don't have any credits from them. From what I know about Financial aid, they stop giving you aid after a certain amount of credits. Though I could be wrong.
