Does anyone know if you can apply for a student loan even if you are in forebearance on a current student loan? My husband has been laid off and we decided to take a forebearance to lighten our load a little. Here in Georgia you can get to Hope Scholarship to pay for college, but if you have been out of school for over ten years you have to pay for your first 30 hours yourself. We were going to put our tax return towards it, but I know my books will be expensive also so I was considering getting a student loan. I was just afraid this may be a problem. TIA!

I would think that you could apply for fa....as long as your loan doesn't go into default. That's the situation I'm in now...I let it go into default and now I'm in a repayment program so that I can get fa for the Fall. Go to this website http://www.fafsa.gov
you should be able to get more information.

I am not in default and I guess as far as student loans go I don't really owe that much, I just needed a break from the payment for a few months. Thanks again.
