FAFSA verification?

  1. :uhoh21: So, I was reviewing my student aid report, and it said my file has been flagged for verification. Does this mean I did something wrong? What do they need to verify? The only thing I didn't have when I did my taxes was my 1098-T, so I just guess-timated what my income was from grants last year.

Anyone that's had to do this? They won't award me any aid untill the process is complete, and I'm worried if it takes too long some of the need based grants will be all used up.

I noticed that I had accidently put the wrong year of my divorce (2002, as opposed to 2003), I corrected that online, but I'm still a little worried. My EFC is only $300, and I don't want it to go up because of a mistake I made. :imbar

Anyway, any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Megan

I had the same problem. I did nothing wrong, and I got my finacial aid. I had to give copies of my tax return to the school for verification. They just want to see your tax return and make sure you are not making anything up.

You probably did nothing wrong, it is just like a random audit. Some people get hit and others don't.

i have just went through the same process. if there is any mistakes they will correct the mistakes and resubmit it to the government. if there is any major corrections i could affect how much aid you are getting for school year. :hatparty:

it's a random process that schools do each year. It doesn't mean you did anything wrong, or that you're not going to get aid. It's just one more thing the government requires schools to do. I've had to go through this myself and it's really a piece of cake.

Thanks everyone. I was really freaking out. I feel better now, though.
