Don't you hate the arrogant students?

  1. Today was the nurse orientation. Some of the students in the orientation came off as very arrogant to me. The funny thing about it, is that I did not see them as special or better. To tell you the truth, I do not even find them attractive. They were looking at me like I was inferior or something. ***** The women there were not even attractive and judging from how they acted, I would not even date them. The cool students and the good looking students did not come off that way as they did. I hate those arrogant students. They should get a reality check.:angryfire

So let me clarify this: The whole time you thought they were looking at you, judging you, dismissing you as such-and-such, you were doing the same to them.

oh they will, cause all people have short comings and their's might just be something that is as simple as an IM injection. one of my fellow classmates is extremely cocky and when it came time to give a shot you would have thought she had seen a ghost, she just about passed out. even the teacher made fun of her, what an ego death that was in time, as students there comes a time, especially in clinical when you get an ego death or two... we don't know anything that why we're here. all i can say is teach them and they will respect you and never forget you!

Maybe what you call arrogance, others call self-confidence.

Were you intending on choosing one to date, and let down once you saw them? :chuckle :chuckle No, seriously, GIVE THEM A CHANCE! You will be with those people for the next few years, so it will make school a LOT easier on you if you try to get along with them, even if they do turn out to be arrogant.

I remember a long time ago, when I was a bit insecure, I thought most people were being "arrogant". Now that I have grown up, I realize it was not others being judgmental but, in fact, it was me. Stop putting up those barriers that prevent you from getting to know other people. Also please keep in mind, these people, whom you call "arrogant" and "unattractive", are now your new family members...whether you like it or not. Another thing , "arrogant" and "ugly" are not qualifiations or barriers to being a great nurse. Another thing to keep in mind, everyone has overcome their own hindrances to be where you are, please respect that. I was surpised by a girl I thought looked somewhat strange. You know why her looks are not supermodel material? She was shot 12 times when she was kiddnapped, robbed, and left for dead. Two of the shots were in her face, one in her eye and one in the mouth. She is missing several teeth on one side and has a glass eye. By judgemental standards she is less than perfect. BUT the girl I have come to know and love is the most beautiful woman on this planet. SHe is my new and only hero. I am glad, I thank GOD, I put down my own prejudices and got to know her. She is now one of my very best friends and will make an incredible nurse.
    I wish you well.

When you start having to go to clinicals, do careplans, chapter test, calculations, and learn all the right and wrong ways to do a nursing procedure, you'll forget all about those students. There is always one person that might think that they are smarter, but so what??? You are all there to reach the same goal, so atleast try to work together and get through it. I see my classmates more than I see my own family, so be prepared to spend alot of time with yours.

Perhaps the newness of things is making you feel a little more defensive and insecure. The experienced staff can make you feel that way, it's normal. But try to be open minded and look at each of them as a potential teacher. Try to look past the hard shell of confidence that some of them may carry and deal with them on a human to human basis. After all, you all still use the same rest room in the end, right? :chuckle You probably have more in common with them than you think, you all chose nursing. You won't fall in love with every patient you deal with either, but they're human beings and deserve your respect.

Hmmm, be careful about first impressions..they can be very deceiving. Keep in mind that these are people that you are going to be spending a lot of time with in class, clinicals, etc. It is not often that you are in the room with so many people that have taking almost all of the same classes and have a true understanding of what you will be going through the next couple of years. That automatically makes them have so much in common with you already.

I came away from my orientation feeling glad that I had met so many bright individuals that I had so much in common with. Besides being classmates now, we could very well be coworkers in the future. My advice, don't burn any bridges this early in the game or you are going to have a terrible educational experience.

How old are you? That sounded like something I'd hear in high school.

Newsflash: there is a lot more to be arrogant about than just one's looks. In fact, I can understand and often appreciate arrogance. It's often there for a reason. Many brilliant people I know are arrogant. But to be arrogant about your physical appearance is just pretty stupid.
