Does anyone need the Taber's Medical Dictionary?

Does anyone else need the Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary for their nursing class? I have the Mosby's Meeical Nursing & Allied Health Dictionary and was wondering if this would be suffecient. I am thinking the Taber's is only for reference and not some thing you would be used a text (it is a "reference" book). I am trying to save money here, granted it is not expensive at all but everything counts!!

Does anyone know if I will be okay with my Mosby's?

I use my Taber's more than anything. When I am reading and don't understand something I look it up, when I am watching discovery health and someone has something weird, I look it up. I also use it when writing papers which require a certain number of references...."According to Taber's........." Maybe you can find an older edition super cheap on ebay.

hmmmmm, it sounds like I might need it if my instructors refer to "Taber's" on papers. I am sure my reference book I already have will do the trick but that is not good if the instructor refers to it.

I never used Tabers, but I did use the Mosby's. We had to use one of them and on clinical papers we had to put the definition of the disease process as it was written in the dictionary. It is then used as one of your references.

Either one is sufficient.

The Mosby's has pictures that helps students and/or seasoned nurses.

Tabers is very compact.

I have the Mosby's. My school suggested either of them. I have never used the Tabers. But as someone else posted, I use mine all the time. Sometimes even when I am supposed to be studying I'll open it to look up something and the get caught in reading about something else because of the picture :D

I think you will be fine with the Mosby's. If anything ask one of your instructors if that one is fine before you spend more money ;)

We were required to purchase Taber's. Taber's has pictures also.

You might consider purchasing the Taber's for your PDA (if you use one). Right now Skyscape.com has a package that includes TAber's for PDA and desktop together. Then you wouldn't need the hardcopy. I did actually purchase a current edition of Taber's on ebay fairly reasonably. I can't remember exactly how much. I wouldn't have bought it at all if I had realized that I was going to use a PDA.

Or you can try amazon.com. I got my psyche book at amazon for $3 (plus shipping, of course). Which is about $80 less than the bookstore.

OK, I looked at at amazon Mosbys is $26.49. Tabers is $35.01

I have Stedman's Consise Medical Dictionary for the Health Professions. (Illistrated/Third Edition).

Is this good, or should I be prepared to purchase another one? (If the instructor doesn't mandate a certain one.)
