I am just wondering what most of you did before this? I am a medical transcriptionist and am switching over to nursing. Do most of you already have a medical background and decided this is what you wanted? I actually think I am crazy going back to school. My husband is in medical school and I have two kids, ages 6 and 1. I feel like this is what I am supposed to do though.

Thanks:)

My background is accounting. I decided to pursue a medical career after having my baby in 2002. Currently in 1st semester for pre req. Will begin nursing classes in Fall 2005.

Specializes in Medical/Surgical.

Got my first degree in Graphic Design. Now work in Marketing/Advertising. Don't hate it, but it doesn't fullfill me. I wanted to do Nursing before, but it would have added more time to my first degree which I couldn't afford at the time. So I'm back in school now, after getting some money together. Very exciting to finally be working towards this. :D

Specializes in ICU.

I have a B. S. in chemistry and am currently working in a Research Lab for the Department of Agriculture. Start nursing school this fall :D

Hi all! Should I really tell everyone the terrible jobs I have held? Okay...KMart, I painted motorcycle farrings, resturants, grocery stores for a long time, and my last most favorite job was for the chief of orthopedic surgery. I have ALWAYS wanted to be a nurse. I just havent made the time to do it, until now. I will be starting my pre-reqs this summer, and look out, Ive got flames on my feet!!

Hi everyone. I have a degree in accounting and I'm a CPA, but I mainly stay at home with my kids now. I'll start nursing school in June!

Bartender, Working with multi-disabled children and frail elderly, RN

Figure I got my psych training being a bartender, my peds and geriatrics in my next job, so I was ready to start nursing school and get a degree to go with my experience...lol

Life Insurance....customer service....BORING.........................................Have been a nurse for 13 years.....NOT BORING...

:) Hi,

My background is completely unrelated to nursing ... prior to entering my nursing program, I was a teacher and graduate student in history. Wanted to switch to nursing because I value what nurses do, and I didn't find my work in history very gratifying. Nursing school is definitely challenging, but I truly love it. I'm in my second clinical now (neurosciences) and will write my RN in June 2005 (I'm in an accelerated-track Bachelor's). Best of luck to you all!

Specializes in home health, LTC, assisted living.

Me too, I was a transcriptionist for ten years. It helps to know the terminology for nursing. :)

Specializes in L&D.

I've worked computer information systems, accounting, laboratory clerk, purchasing, waited tables, stay-at-home-mom. Now I'm in my second semester of nursing school.
