clinical uniforms

Hello everyone... I did check the archives for this but I was pretty frustrated when I found out today that the uniform requirement for clinicals is white skirt (I think white pants are okay too), white top and this is the real kicker .... A WHITE HAT... I thought wearing the hat was gone already. I guess it is not a big deal but boy I hate wearing any hat much less a white hat with wings.. What do most of you get to wear? Anybody else have to wear a hat??

"The information came from a guy I know that is in clinicals now. He tells me that even the guys have to wear them and yes that is all of the time. "

OMG!!!! Loubell, that made me bust out laughing just picturing some poor male nsg. stdt. with a cap on.

I had a pretty bad day and you totally made me crack up.

Thanks for the laugh!

Thanks everyone for telling me your story of clinical attire. I think the comment from EmeraldNYL about being distinguishable from the housekeeper makes me feel a little better about it. I certainly do not want to be putting all of my money into this program to be mistaken as part of the ganitorial staff (no offense).. Do not get me wrong, I stilll intend on questioning them about it but since they have done it for so long, I doubt I can get them to change..

Thanks again,

Lynda

I love my program----we get to wear navy scrubs!!!!!!!!!

Once I get accepted & actually start school, the clinical uniforms are white scrub pants & cranberry shirts/jackets, & of course, the white shoes.

Specializes in LTC, ER, ICU,.

we wear a white uniform with trimmed colors of our school in front on both sides of the top. we had to purchase a cap but as for as i know, it is only for pictures and graduation.

i don't mind wearing a cap.

oooooooo, pictures!

I can't wait till I graduate and get to have pictures made looking all traditional and spiffy like a REAL NURSE wearing the white and the cap.....

Okay, I'm weird. So sue me. ;)

(I still can't wait.)

I think I'd like to wear......

Tan shoes with pink shoelaces....

A pookadot vest ...man-0-man...

Tan shoes with pink shoes laces.....

.......A big Panama with a purple hat band.........:roll

I guess I'm a little different...I hapen to think the hat is nice! But only with all whites...I can't really picture it with colored scrubs...unless they made colored hats...hmmm...:D I really do think something has to be done though because everyone does look the same and it's hard to distinguish who is who in the hospitals. I'm not sure if we have a pinning ceremony or if we get our pictures with the hats but I know I'll be disappointed if we don't. I like traditions and I believe they have a place in Nursing. Anyway...I'm rambling now! :D

We don't wear hats either, but I do agree that they definitely make it where you wouldn't get mistaken for the housekeeper, laboratory, respiratory therapy, secretary, and CNA's. Everyone wears scrubs!!!

There are a few nurses in our local hospital that still wear a cap and they seem to get more respect from the patients and their families. Or maybe it just seems that way to me. :D

I just received my requirements for a uniform and they are:

white leather shoes with laces (no clogs or sandals),

white uniform, tunic style top that goes over pants (they said white scrubs are okay) but requested white undergarments be worn AND clarified...(are you ready for this?) no thongs.

After the chuckle, I began my search for the most comfortable pair of white leather shoes with laces that I can find. I mean, do white leather sneakers qualify if they are all white?

If anyone has any great websites or suggests a certain brand or type of shoe, I would be greatly appreciative! I need a big supportive shoe (leather keds will not work for me).

Thanks and good luck to everyone!

BTW, they also said I'll need a stethescope. Understandable, but how would I have any idea what kind or type to buy? I'm a clueless nursing student that hasn't even started! :)

Thanks,

Spec

I have a Prestige stethescope, it has different interchangeable parts for adults/peds. It was pretty inexpensive, around $25.
