Okay, I'm working very crazy hours that are never set in stone and I have to be flexible as far as my availability is concerned. I've been an LPN for going on a year now and I've decided to take the next step and begin taking pre-reqs toward the RN program (there were no pre-reqs needed for my LPN program). However, I can't stick to the set schedule of the traditional classroom. Thus, I am considering taking these pre-reqs online so that I maintain my flexible work schedule and still have time to for bookwork and studying when I have a break here and there. However, I feel like I would do better in a classroom setting, as I need direct guidance from an instructor and feedback from other students. I just don't know what to do! I need some advice from you guys. Thanks!

I would love to be able to do online classes but I need to actually SEE the professor/teacher during lecture. I learn better by seeing the professor and listening at the same time. Online classes would never work for me.

I think you answered your own question with this quote from your post "However, I feel like I would do better in a classroom setting, as I need direct guidance from an instructor and feedback from other students" If you feel you'd do better in the traditional clasroom, best thing to do is take those pre-reqs on campus(and most are tough classes..Chem w/Lab, A&P I and II with labs, some want Microbio as a pre-req, I would fail in a heartbeat if I had to do those online) Leave things like English for online.

Even though online courses don't require you to be sitting in a classroom at a specific time, there's still guidance from the instructor and feedback from other students. I've taken some online classes before, and I've always been able to contact the instructor with questions and they've given feedback on assignments. Some of them had discussion boards where students could talk about what we were learning. Of course, not every online course is set up the same. So, you should probably learn more about the format of the ones you're interested in. Online courses CAN be harder if you're a better classroom learner, but they aren't impossible and you're not on you're own. You just have to be motivated and determined to learn!

Be careful with online classes. I am currently in an ADN program moving forward with the pre-reqs to a BSN bridge and they do not accept three of the classes that I have taken online so now I will need to pay for those classes again and take them in a classroom. If you plan on moving on with your degree, I would check with the schools you are planning on going to in the future. Good luck!!!

My school offers online versions of their courses. But I would never take a science or math online. I have taken all of my English online and just got done with Psych and Nutrition online.

If you think you learn better in person, then by all means, get there.

Thanks for all your responses. I will take the humanities classes online and the science classes in person. I appreciate everyone's input!
