When I was 12 y/o we went to my Uncle's 50th birthday party and they had a portrait painted of him and it was hanging on the wall. His hair was grey. I remember looking at that picture and saying to myself, Wow he is really really old, I'll never be that old. I'm now 50 and though there are days my bones ache, I'm not old ! I've still got alot of spunk in me!

That's a good story, Dutch. Isn't it funny what we remember as kids? I remember the exact moment (I think I was 5 years old) looking at myself intently in the mirror, studying my face, wondering what I would look like as a woman. LOL. I told myself at that moment I would never forget the way I looked right then and there. Weird. And when I go back to my Dad's house and look in that mirror, the room seems so small....How things change. These geri/aging classes really have me thinking. And the teachers don't help either, bringing in all these sappy poems. I tear up at least once in each lecture. LOL

Jenny, that's just too precious. How neat your Dad still lives in the same house and has that same mirror. I've had times too that as I child I thought I'll never forget this and I never have. I remember being elementary school age and my Mom sitting down with me to teach me how to knit. It was so special just her and I. I still remember that when I think about knitting, forgot how to knit but love the memory. I grew up in Florida. In Elementary school we had this huge slide on play ground. Several years ago I had a chance to go by the school and the slide was so small! Yes, our perspectives as children are so different and so wonderful. It's been fun going down memory lane!

I"m going to resurrect this old thread because I can't believe I missed it when it first came out in January! LOL But also becuase I want to know if Dublin37 got into nursing school. I start this fall and I'm in my 40's :spin: Love the older nursing student forum idea. Guess it never went anywhere

I saw a statistical chart somewhere about the ages of nurses, and if you think about it, the majority of nurses are in their 40's or so. So, the majority would post in that forum. haha

So, I guess maybe it's not needed???????? Maybe the 25 and younger need their own forum.

Hi Faerie! Yes i will be starting in the Fall 06! wahooooo, though now that it's a reality, i'm scared!! :smackingf I just turned 44 in January. My initial thinking when i began my pre-req's was that i'd be done about now! but really it doesn't matter. There have been many difficult paths i've had to walk while waiting, and whether i'm 42 or 44 or 60, if i'm still here i might as well use my time to help others! see ya, dublin

Well, it didn't say if the nurses that age were new or not.

Actually, I'm right there with you on the need for a forum.

BTW, congrats & good luck on your program!

Yes Dublin congrats on getting in! I read an old thread in which you posted which titled wait list 2-4 years. That's why I was interested if you got into school and how long you waited. The thread was started 2 years ago.

I'm going to LVN school this fall and will have all my pre-reqs done by the time I graduate from that so when I pass licensure I can apply to my community college to bridge to RN which is not as long a wait as just going straight RN.

Hey I"m in So CA too. SD actually. My friend was just told last year that the wait list was 4 years now. Then they just contacted her to see if she was still interested (after waiting a year) and they said it was 2. She appears to be about 50 btw. (hope she never reads this! LOL ) To do the bridge the wait list is a year but some have told me they got in in one semester.

Hi Fun, I have heard that the average age of nurses today is like 47. Some say 48. A nursing school counselor told me 50.

Hahaha that would be funny to have a special forum for the younger nursing students or younger students! LOL!

I would like to start next year (32) but I might have to wait until I'm 35+ 'cuz I'm homeschooling my little ones and want to wait until they are ready for independent studies...
