We have a club at my school called OWLS - Older Wiser Learning Students. It's campus-wide, not just for the nursing department... but we have quite a few nursing members. I was actually Vice President last year. It includes anyone who is a non-traditional student - over the age of 25 or with adult responsibilities such as marriage/children, etc.

" the thread is flooded. it would be great to have our own forum like the "male nurse forum". if not a forum, how 'bout a sticky??? thanks for considering us older, wiser, (hah) and second career-ers!

Wow! that is sooo cool. I will definitely look into a support/study group when i enter nursing school.

Also this is for men/women and any age who feels they can relate to being kinda a minority i guess, not the norm.

My school has something similar - WOW (Women On the Way) It's for women returning to school, although men can join if they want to. (But with the name being what it is....)

I'm 38 and a single mother who is currently an accountant. I am re-entering school to be a nurse now for pre-requisites and in 3 years when my son goes off to college I will be alone and can do an accelerated nursing program while keeping my day job.

I will really be feeling old then.

I'm in the 40-something crowd. Saw a tee-shirt once that said: "I'm not 40-something. I'm 39.95 plus shipping and handling" So maybe a 39.95+s/h forum?

I'll be 50 this month....I don't FEEL old except when I look or think about that number!!

I will have completed my last prereq when A & P II is over on the 12th....I have really struggled in this class and started wondering if my marbles were getting lost!! (My lifetime GPA is about 3.8) I know it's a lot of stress due to my home life, but nonetheless....

Anyway, I know I'm encouraged by finding out there are students even older than me doing this; I hope this helps you 30- and 40-somethings feel better!! I enjoy school and look forward to starting an RN program in the Fall of '06!

[font="georgia"]hi all, just received "the letter". after receiving rejections for 3 years!! i finally received the one with.............. (drum roll please)...........:redpinkhe an acceptance!!! ta da!

okay, so there is a small catch... i've been accepted as an alternate. but, don't take that badly because all alternates start too, but then at least i have the option of waiting. it all depends on if i can get a babysitter for my add boy (10). (for the mornings) so now i'm on the hunt. it might be easier to start in the fall, so i will have more time to line up child care etc. we'll see.

but darned if i am not darned excited!!!! thrilled, titillated etc!!! heather

What about the students that are a year from 30, that don't have much in common with 18 year olds, though?
