0Jan 3, '13 by akulahawkRN, ASN, RN, EMT-P ProI too have a thing for pens, my preference is for Zebra gel pens that are retractable. I'm also an aficionado of cheap pens: currently the Staples 50 pack of black, blue, and red pens. I'm also currently a fan of Bic pens, the very cheap retractable that cost about $.25 each, if you order them in bulk. I also generally prefer that might hands be a in a medium point, however I prefer that gel pens be in a fine point. I have found that the Staples store brand pens and the Bic retractable pens tend to write for a very long time. I tend to keep a supply of those on my person, in the event that it does stop working, I can simply grab another. The other reason I prefer cheap pens is that they're essentially disposable. I have a few on me at a time, and should one become contaminated, I leave it somewhere, or it runs dry, I can always just grab another. I do decontaminate my pens fairly frequently, so that's normally not an issue. If I have to spend more than about $2.50/pen, I tend to become very protective of my pens and don't let them get away from me, nor do I lend them out.
Once upon a time, I used to grab a handful of those cheap Bic pens and just leave them everywhere. That was normally for company marketing, but I knew what we paid for the pens, and if I had the funds, I would order another box of 5000 myself, just so that I could have a nearly lifelong supply of pens. I believe for those pens, we had company logo printed on them so the cost is a little higher, somewhere around $.38 each. I'm sure that the cost is risen the little bit since I last got intends that way, but, I think that at such a low cost even today, I would still grab a ton of those just because they're so affordable.
On the whole, I guess you could say that I am an aficionado of good, cheap, extremely affordable pens. That is not to say that I don't like the more expensive pens, rather I just prefer the cheaper ones because I tend to lose them. I think my all-time favorite pen ran about $7.50. I can't find it.
0Jan 3, '13 by jchildsI like the Papermate Profile. Relatively cheap, good flow, and a comfortable grip.
0Jan 3, '13 by WoundedBirdThe pens my Dad orders for his funeral home. My sisters and I LOVE them (BIC w/ a rubber grip and it's a rollerball) so much we get a ziplock Baggie full of them in our stockings every Christmas. Also, since the name of the funeral home is on it, I usually get them back when I've loaned them out. Hmmm....wonder why

Some of those promotional pens businesses get are great-- smooth writers and free!!The pens my Dad orders for his funeral home. but my go-to pen for just about everything in my life is a gold cross fountain pen with the finest nib they make, a gift from my sweet husband when we wrote letters (actual letters, on paper, with stamps. imagine:heartbeat) when we were courting and living cross-country from each other, a mere twenty-five years ago. i cherish that box of all the letters we wrote to each other over that year and since-- i kept them all, and didn't my heart go pitta-pat when i learned he did, from the first one. someday my grandchildren will find them and marvel:heartbeat. there's just something about how a real nib molds itself to your handwriting that is so seductive.
0Jan 5, '13 by goingtothedogsQuote from FDW630There's something about the act of writing that's just so relaxing and centering!! I use a fountain pen for letters and notes and journaling, and matter of fact, still write letters to my husband once in a while- just to thank him for being so great, or to tuck into his suitcase so he'll find it when he arrives at his destination when away on business. Handwritten correspondence hasn't completely gone the way of the dinosaur!!

What girl wouldn't love to get a handwritten lie letter, though? Sigh....
0Jan 5, '13 by marycarneyLove, love ----love my Bic fine point four color pen. My teens know that if ever they are in the local WalMart and see them, they are to buy up the entire supply. Mom will reimburse.
Did I mention that I love them? because I LOVE them.
0Jan 6, '13 by goingtothedogsQuote from marycarneyAre those the clicky ones?? My brother and I used to get those when we were kids and it drove my mom nuts because we would sit there and just click click click them!! Those must be handy for charting... Maybe I had better pick up a few of those!!! Probably preferable to carrying several different colored pens, huh?Love, love ----love my Bic fine point four color pen. I LOVE binders/notebooks as well! Back to school time is MY most wonderful time of the year! I'm such a dork when it comes to this stuff....maybe that's the reason why I have been a student for so many years, I guess I just have it encoded in my brain that I have to buy new pens, binders and notebooks every semester even if I don't have any classes that semester!
