BSN-MSN - Savings?

Hello! I'm in the process of looking into schools. I want to get my MSN. I spoke with a school who told me that a lot of people get their accelerated BSN and then work for a year at the hospital associated with the University and then get their masters for free. Any thoughts regarding this? Does this make sense?

Also, how much do people typically save? The accelerated BSN is about $73,000 (including room and board and expenses). Is that crazy? I threw up in my mouth a little when I heard this!! However I will have a free room so that will save a lot. Is it crazy to think about doing this? I think it's crazy. I don't know what I'm doing. I'm overwhelmed!!!

Ideally I would love to go for a direct entry MSN but getting a free Masters is definitely appealing!

$73,000 is a lot of money. I am paying $6000 for my ADN(2 yrs) and my RN to BSN (1yr) will cost $10,000 at a private school..and they have a direct entry MSN for those that have a BA/BS in another field.

No help about the MSN, but my bill is around $21,000 a semester - I pay around half of that .. the other half is payed through scholarships, grants, and a loan. (This includes tuition, room and board, clinical fees, lab fees, and other school fees - technology, health clinic, athletics, etc)

Yes, $73,000 is a lot of money, but is somewhat comparable if we're talking private 4-year program.

ETA - Mine is a four year program. How long is the accelerated program you're looking at?

The program I'm looking at is an accelerated 12 month program for non-nurses with a bachelors in another field. It's technically 3 semesters. So that just sounds like a lot for 3 semesters!! Thanks for the input!!

73K is steep! Are you sure you have to live on campus? When the BSN works for a year at the affiliated hospital are they gaurnteed a spot in the MSN program. Is their a pay cut during that year of working?
Off hand this sounds like a okay deal, but you should find out the above questions before making that decision. I attend an expensive Accelerated BSN program (51K-really 46K) and could not fathom paying 73K.

73 includes room and board and I would be able to live with my parents so I could save money that way. Can I ask what made you decide to go private as opposed to public? I'm so excited and yet so nervous!

I live at home too... I went private because thats where I was accepted. Since I have a BA already I know my learning need-and the program fit me will. Plus the possibility of marticulating into their MSN immediately was inticing. The cost was a factor, but at 2100 a month fot 1.5 years to pay off my loan, while living at home, saving for my own home, and having a newer car did not deter me.

Most hospitals in my area have tuition reimbursement...so when I graduate with my ADN, i could have my school paid for while persuing my BSN/MSN if I wanted to promise them a year for each year they pay.
