Yeah, I never had Mrs Routh for clinicals, but for End of Life and Fundamentals she was great, and I love her, but she was hard on her groups for our class too, and some people would get upset. She asks alot of questions because she wants you to know your stuff, and I think that people in her group probablly learned more because you had to be on your toes. If you didn't know your stuff though than I guess she would get disappointed, and I don't know how I would do, because I am sensitive too.
Mrs McLleland was great in clincals first semester. She would get in there and help with patient care, bed baths and hanging IVs, instead of just watching. She was just really laid back and that made us comfortable, especially for 1st semester when you are nervous anyway.
But really, all of our staff are great. I haven't met any "bad" instructors and Brookhaven!

wow...she was so different in class. I remember she was all about relaxing, being calm and feelings. At first it kind of weirded me out because I wasn't used to a professor being like that (always asking how you felt about stuff). I also found it interesting that when you would answer her she would take a minute or two and really think about what you said before she replied. She was also very much a touchy feely person, and when she was showing you how to talk to patients she would touch your hand, shoulder etc like she would do to a patient. That creeped me at first too, but by the end I was more comfortable. I made all A's in the course, and honestly I really didn't try all that hard.

I guess she has to be tougher in the hospital environment.

    QUESTION???????

    Do we go Fall....Spring.....Summer......Fall OR

    Fall......Spring......Fall........Spring?

Someone told me a while back that we went straight through summer, and graduated at the end of fall, but someone else just told me something else.

    Which one is it?
  8. by wannabanrn
you'll go through the summer...that's what makes it a fast track ADN. only 16 months-woohoo! I'm so happy for you I remember being sooo excited and wanting to start right away. Once Ann sends out a group email giving your class more info you'll be able to see who else is in with you. And you'll probably see a ton of familiar names; then you can start reaching out to others and building connections. yay!

    omg...you're in, you're in, you're in!

congrats to all the "baby" nurses!

everyone that has posted is right. it goes by so fast.

classes - get what you can out of the way. patho-get the "incredible easy" book. asap, practice dosage calc.

    steth - i got the cheap one, a spraggue...works great...$20.

white scrubs - get tide pen (works great). wear "your" skin tone underwear. just because the scrubs are white doesn't mean that's the best color for you...get in front of a mirror people!!!

work - i did, part-time...full-time...forget it! that's just me. i'm married have have a young son.

instructors - love them all! had routh for clinicals 1 and 2. didn't cry. she is tough, but it made me stronger. i only heard of her "yelling" one time. basically people cryed because you're just worn plum out. lecture, clinical, late late late nights. she is amazing!

had schmitt for preceptorship. she is awesome too! realy gets your mind clicking.

it's an amazing journey...emotions run high and low. don't be surprised if fellow students (or yourself) get a little b***hy. it happens, and then your/they're over it. just hang on and have fun!

    later!
