Well, congratulations!! Even though the instructor may have been in the wrong and you were embarrassed, you did a great job.....you should be very proud!

First, congrats! When we work hard or do well, we should be proud and celebrate. With happiness and humility. I'm sorry if you were embarassed and if it bothers you then you should speak to the instructor. Too often though, we aren't celebrated enough. Too, too often the accolades go to the sports stars, pop stars, and not to the everyday heroes who get up and work hard and get up and do it again.

We have three daughters, 1 shared, 1 brought to the marriage and 1 foster. But I forget which one is which ;*) We've always told them to celebrate when they work hard and to share what they know. Here's a quote that our youngest has over her bed. (you can replace God with mother goddess, Buddha, your grandmother if that is your belief...but who are we not to be great?)

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Kind of tough for my first post...I'm a first year nursing student returning for a second career! It's very hard and I'm proud for myself when I do well, and for the coworkers and patients that I hope to have in the future. It wasn't until we got our first tests back that some other students approached me to help them...and I gladly do. I may lead them through this now, and I'm sure that I will also be a follower at times...That's why I want to go into nursing, to teach and to help...

Congrats again....bl

I get called out a lot for good grades and top grade in class and I don't have a problem with it at all. I worked hard, I deserve the recognition. If someone is resentful that they didn't get as good of a grade, well, I'm sure they'll work harder next time and get the recognition they deserve. I think sometimes some good competition can push people to achieve more and work harder....of course, it can go negative when taken too far. I come from a creative field (photography) though and it's very highly competitive (as everyone with a working index finger thinks they can be a fashion photographer) and of course we're all attention and credit hogs.

I understand that quite a few people are more modest than me, but I think you worked hard for your grade you should proud to show it off. You deserve the credit and to feel good about it.....openly. Good work.

Actually, what happened to you is a clearcut violation of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which is a federal law. If you really wanted to be anal, you could report this to the feds, and the school could lose any or all of its federal funding.

I'm not suggesting that.

However, student privacy is an important topic to me. I formerly was a university administrator, and I'm a very private person. So, it drives me crazy when instructors do things like leave graded papers to be picked up from a box outside their office door. This definitely violates FERPA.

I won't tell you what to do. Just know that your rights were violated, and you have every right to feel embarrassed. If it were me, I probably would take it up with an administrator. Perhaps the faculty member in question simply needs a refresher course on FERPA.

I would speak to the teacher if I was embarrassed by this type of behavior and ask them nicely not to announce my grade again. Personally I think that grades should be kept private unless the person wishes to share them. Just like any other personal information it should be respected as private.
But congrats on getting 100%, that is a real accomplishment in nursing school!

i don't think that it's wise to make nursing school competitive within the program because it puts more pressure on already moronic, obsessive compulsive students who are (for the most part) over achievers... and instead of focusing on patient care and team work, they are promoting competition among vicious baby-eating monsters (student nurses)......

if you are offended by my "vicious baby-eating monsters" comment, please do not be... i have a very dry, but dearly loving nature - i promise *BIG SMILE*
