Atheists? How do you deal with religious people?

I'm an atheist. I am uncomfortable around religious situations. I haven't started nursing school yet (14 weeks to go). I'm concerned with being confronted with people that would ask me to "Pray for them" and stuff. I don't know if this is a common occurrence among patients, etc. Aside from not wanting to be included in religious sentiments, I also am very uncomfortable with lying. I think I would find moral difficulty with saying "Okay" to someone that would ask me to pray for them.

I'd prefer to hear from atheists how they deal with situations like that. I'd rather not get into a religion discussion, if it can be avoided.

I was trying to search for old threads, but the links from the search engine are not going to the correct pages.

lol stan,,,I have most def. read the bible,GOD hears the prayer for you to call on HIM and invite him into your life, other wise he does not. and I absolutely refuse to argue the bible with an athiest.

and to loner....sorry I wasnt on topic for the question, just as I stated to bob,no matter what you beleive or dont believe as other posters have said, you can just politely offer to go get them a preist, preacher, rabbi, whatever the occasion calls for. goodluck

I believe only the atheist prophet Carlin is appropriate here:

You know who I pray to? Joe Pesci. Joe Pesci. Two reasons; first of all, I think he's a good actor. Okay. To me, that counts. Second; he looks like a guy who can get things done. Joe Pesci doesn't &^!% around. Doesn't @*&@ around. In fact, Joe Pesci came through on a couple of things that God was having trouble with. For years I asked God to do something about my noisy neighbor with the barking dog. Joe Pesci straightened that @#&$ out with one visit.

I noticed that of all the prayers I used to offer to God, and all the prayers that I now offer to Joe Pesci, are being answered at about the same 50 percent rate. Half the time I get what I want. Half the time I don't. Same as God 50-50. Same as the four leaf clover, the horse shoe, the rabbit's foot, and the wishing well. Same as the mojo man. Same as the voodoo lady who tells your fortune by squeezing the goat's testicles. It's all the same; 50-50. So just pick your superstitions, sit back, make a wish and enjoy yourself.

Like I said, obviously not. However, I do find it funny that you refuse to discuss the bible with an atheist. Especially seeing how that atheist most likely has studied the aforementioned book, along with those from other religions, way more than the 'average' religious person. Perhaps even you.

Of course, I am just a mere atheist so god forbid you act with any sort of modicum of decency or respect. God forbid! :D

stanley...YOU have shown NOT ONE OUNCE OF RESPECT HERE,FOR CHRISTIANS. I guess its just your nature.

Would that be my atheist nature or my black nature or my male nature or my American nature? Which bigotry am I being subjected to here???

Hmmm. Isn't it about time to close this thread? The OP's question was answered...

LOL ,just go back and read SEVERAL statements you have made on this entire thread and I think you will figure it out. I mean even the quote you have could be considered offensive to a lot of us "bible thumpers" .

Hmm, nevermind... Why talk about something? Actions DO speak louder than words.

thats what I thought ...;);):rcgtku:
