Are you allowed to use voice recorder during lecture?

I'm doing my last preerq courses, and I was thinking about buying a digital voice recorder, hoping that I can use it throughout nursing school as well. But someone told me that the nursing school they went to wouldn't allow voice recorders for core nursing courses. I was wondering if this was the norm? Or is this the exception?

ya we can, and I bought a recorder,BUT have never listened to it,lol

Yep! We're allowed to and I'm ever so glad that I did. Especially on the diabetes lectures it saved my butt!

The only school policy we have is that you need the Professor's consent before recording. Most are fine with us recording.

We are allowed to use voice recorders during our lectures. I've seen several students put their recorders on the podium at the front of the classroom before lecture (I keep mine in front of me), and then they retrieve them afterwards.

On the syllabi it says that "audio taping is permitted at the discretion of each individual instructor," but I haven't personally seen anyone ask for permission to record the instructors' lectures.

I love having my recorder. For my patho instructor, I definitely needed one because he spoke so fast and did not post his lectures online. Also, I record most of my lectures now because I like to go back and listen to some of them again and take extra notes that I didn't have time to write down at the time of the lecture. Going back and re-listening to them sometimes helps you to identify what points they emphasize, which is helpful in studying for their exams.

At the school I go to they recently started recording the lectures for us. The lectures are live so if we ask questions in class then we actually here the teachers response. I wish they would have done this all along, because it has helped me soooooo much..Anyhow the nursing program actually purchased a voice recorder specifically for this cause. Like I said this is wonderful and I would highly recommend it for other programs.

Im my school we are told that you have to ask the teacher for permission to record them before doing so, most of them say no you cant,maybe they dont want to be held liable for telling you some form of information that could later backfire on them

In our nursing courses, no. And if we bring laptops into class, we have to sign something that says that we will not use it to record lectures. We spend a fair amount of time talking about past and current patient care and our instructor frequently shares stories of her own experiences. It could become a breech of confidentiality were recordings of these lectures available to anyone outside of the class.

In our "regular" classes like sciences and so forth it is up to the instructor's discretion and most of them are fine with it.

We can use recorders only if the instructor permits it...luckily, almost all of them do and will tell you so on the first day of class.
