Is anyone attending University of Texas @ Tyler(or extension campuses) now or in Fall '04?

did you get in there?

Tell me everything you know!! I applied for the Spring 2005 semester (I have to take the fall semester off to save money) but I really dont know much about their program.

how early did you apply? What was your GPA (if you dont mind me asking)?, how many students do they accept? What is their program like? How do they run clinicals?

Any info would be GREAT!!

I'm going to the Palestine campus (~45 miles from the main campus in Tyler). They accept ~30 on the extension campuses at Palestine and Longview, and ~90 on the Tyler campus.I turned in my application and everything in Feb. for the Mar 1st deadline, and got my acceptance letter in April (Easter Weekend). My GPA is 3.5. The staff and faculty is very nice!!! ANy questions you have that I can't answer you can go to the website www.uttyler.edu, look under COllege of Nursing, click on faculty, and email Andi Liner. She is the pre-nursing advisor, she will email you back w/in a few hours and is very helpful. THey let you take Pathophysiology and Concepts and THeories(NURS 3205) before you enter the program if you want to lighten you course load for the 1st semester. I took NURS 3205 and Patho (spring 2004)-did very well. They really help you out, they don't try to treat you like idiots. In the fall I will only have Pharm, Health Assessm, and NUrsing COmpetencies (13 hrs.). If you can save some money over the summer try to take these 2 classes in the fall, because alot of people say that the 1st semester is killer b/c of all the classes(normally 18 hrs.). I don't think your GPA has to be to high b/c alot of people got in with 3.2 and up. If you want to go to the Palestine campus you can email the director there with your grades and she'll tell you what your chances are. You have to take the NET test-pretty basic math, reading, they consider it with acceptance to. Looking at my schedule here's how my week will run:

Monday:H.Assess-9-1150(class) ; Pharm-1-350

Tues: N.Competanc-9-1150 (class)

Wed.-N.Comp-630a-3p(clinical)

THurs.-H.Assess-9-12(lab)

WHat campus are you applying for? I didn't think there was anyone else on the board going to this college. I wish you were able to get in the fall. I don't know the deadline for Spring, but watch for it around Sept-Nov so you won't miss the deadline. Prepare for buying alot of books, they will be ~$550 for the 1st semester. I buying as many as I can from Barnes & Noble, they had pretty good deals on alot of them and free shipping, which cuts the costs to ~300's. Have you tried to get financial aid/ scholarships? They offer alot of Scholar. at UTT. I hope I helped you. Feel free to ask me anything else.:)

Also, they don't determine your GPA by all of the classes you've ever taken. What ever is on the nuring pre-reqs sheet, those are the grades they will pick off your transcript to determine nursing GPA. I transfered from Stephen F. Austin State Univers., so I had alot of electives that weren't counted. They really don't break your GPA up into Science and then overall, its just the overall nursing core only. During the Fall go ahead and take a CPR class to get it over with, they will offer one before the program begins but its better to get it out the way. Ok I'm finished now.SOrry so long.:p

i'm currently an lvn student at tvcc - palestine campus. i will receive my certificate on august 12, 2004. i intend to take next fall off (pass boards, make some money, pay some bills), and then in spring 2005, take 1 or 2 classes per semester to finish with all i can before applying to the lvn-to-bsn program. these are my plans, i haven't discussed with anyone at ut just yet, but do plan on attending at the palestine campus. i work in tyler, but prefer to not drive over there for classes as well, if i don't have to. good luck to you and perhaps i'll run into you sometime if you do clinicals in tyler.

congrats on your lvn accomplishments! i plan on taking the lvn boards after the 1 st year of clinicals, and work part-time during the last year. was it hard finding a job in palestine, is that why you work in tyler? i was wondering b/c i live in crockett but i would like to work at palestine regional. do you know anything the hospital (nursing)? i have had every medical procedure i've ever needed done there and the nurses were really sweet.i don't mind the 30 min. drive, but i don't think i could make it all the way to tyler. feel free to ask me how the nursing classes are going so you'll know something about how they do things at utt(pal). i don't know how different they are from tvcc.

thanks for the congrats!! it's been a long time coming and not what i had planned 6 years ago, but this is the way it is. i believe things happen for a reason. the reason i don't work in palestine is that i don't live in palestine. i live west of palestine...small town called malakoff. from my driveway to the parking lot in tyler is 50 miles and about 48 to palestine, but tyler pays better...so for the extra 4 miles per day, i'll take the extra pay!! i've done clinicals at palestine regional...it's like anywhere else...some of the staff is friendly...some are not. i wish you the best of luck in your future schooling.
