did everyone else get a list of rules for clinicals....fingernails not above tips of fingers, only one earring in each ear and only gold or white studs, hair not touching the collar, reasonable makeup and no loud hair colors, and i can't believe this one---students must be freshly showered ( it is sad that it has to be in writing) i would hope people would try and look nice for clinicals!
we got the very same rules you did, susan.

we only have lecture 2 hours a day twice a week and looking over the schedule they list for one day respiratory. thats alot of reading in the books about respiratory in one week! i'm worried i so much wont be able to read it all, but to understand, remember, and be able to take a test on it in the 4 weeks between tests. i'm sure they probably wont go as indepth as the books, but i'm like det01 said i can't just have the basics, i want to know why, how, what, where, and how it releates to _________.
    nycole
nicole, i think the way most ad programs are set up is, the first semester covers "normal" functional and a few "minor alterations" then as each semester goes by, the "alterations" will become more complex.

take your example of "respiratory" we started with basic needs. terminology related to o2, apnea, ventalation, etc. things that effect o2, excersize, health, emotions. very basic stuff you should know from a&p.

second semester we went to moderately complex alterations in o2 needs. hypoxia, hyper & hypoventalion, stridor, etc. uri's like sinusitis, croup, and flu. lri's like pneumonia, emphysema, and bronchitis. acid-base imbalences, etc.

next semester will will discuss malgnancies (in general) & their treatment and how it effects o2 needs. during the 4th semester we will study complex alterations such as lung cancer and transplants.

i hope this helps, so don't try to read everything about respiration. remember that ton of books will be used over the entire 2 years. good luck and have fun. i'm loving school.

I think studying anything a little more nursing/DX/PATIENT will be a nice change.

Anything but seemingly unrelated minutia about microscopic/psych/cats

    anything, really.

Peeps , I know what you mean, I'm ready for the Meat and Potatoes too, enough of the side dishes, although the A&P's were the best courses, except for the CAT !

Yea! The cat muscles were just like a giant drumstick! I'll never forget getting a 79 on the lab practical for that one

    Stupid cat.

Someone asked me to give them some advice on whether to get an appointment with a dentist or a medical doc. The symptoms they were describing and the palpation of the painful area made me reference the cat so I could visualize the internal structures. I don't think I would have suggested his parotid gland was involved if I hadn't disected the cat. The actual visualization of the organs was an important connection to our bookwork, but still I despised the cat.

I'm doing the same thing. And I'm also trying to do things to help increase my energy level. I know that if I can drop some weight, I'll feel better. Has anyone heard of Advocare? A parent from my daughter's soccer team sells it and says that they have some great energy products. I just don't want to get dependent on something just so I can stay afloat.

    Deb,

If you can get an ingredients list, I would compare it to products that you can get at GNC. There is virtualy no new thing under the sun as far as those kinds of things.

It would be a good idea to say you are wanting to research the ingredients instead of comparable products. It's likely you won't get a lable or a list anyway.

I take Caffiene-Ephadrene stacks during semester to fuel my study sessions. I also take "brain food" called Cognita that has a few ingredients that have actual double-blind research by an independant source.

I know, I know......OH MY GAWD EPHEDRA WILL KILL YOU!!!!!

Well, I've been using it for ten years without side-effects<<<<<<< and I have NEVER seen qualified research leading to those statements by the media.did you see that?

It's kind of sad when I ask where someone found the research they are talking about (place the product the media is attacking this month here) and all they can tell me is that "I heard it on the news" and then you can see the recognition in thier face when they feel like a stupid media sheep!!:chuckle

Anyhoo, I've got an outstanding GPA and I'm not going to change a thing.Let me know when, or if, you get that ingredient list. You may be able to buy a comparable product without paying as much.

    Feel free to PM.

    Peeps
